Who said "RW runs fine if everyone would just have systems like mine"? Again you can have all the hardware in the world but if you don’t know how to set it up what good is it going to do you? The proof of that is right here in this forum.

You can disagree all you want and I’ll repeat it again with the “default” (and a few beta routes I’ve been testing) routes in RailWorks I have never had any “SBHH crash” on three different machines which includes a low end (compared to my desktops laptop.

Did you patch railworksproc2.exe ? It's not railworks.exe you should patch :)

I am the proud owner of a system with an i7 975 @ 4GHz, and a Radeon HD5870, and one would think with such a system RW would run flawlessly. It does in the main run reasonably well of course, but if I try to set FSAA higher than 4x multisampling or if I enable vsync I get to Stutter City pretty fast (leaves seem to be a major killer, winter = smooth). The same PC eats stuff like Crysis for breakfast, even FSX is like butter.

The moral of the story is, even with the best systems there is a lot of room for optimisation in the RW graphics engine. ;)

Don't worry. I did that too the first time  A little trigger-happy to press "OK" too quickly.

Yes you must indeed patch 'Railworksproc2' and you'll see a difference in the performance of RW

Good to hear Dave! The success streak continues. The sheer amount of people this has cured their instability with speaks for itself.

One of my setups uses the exact same specs, i7 975 and an ATI 5870. Unless you are trying to run RailWorks with SuperSampling AA applied you should have no problem running 8xAA with the 5870.
