Just finished the first part of the Didcot scenario, and I must say I love the thing. I like the fact that you must change gear, hence getting involved in the process, not just turning up the power...I am not sure I made myself clear...sorry if I didn't.

I could not help but think, however, about how great it would be to have the kind of cab-sway Reppo showed in his vid...that would imho add a lot to the already great experience.

I loved this model on the Cambrian route, I know the sounds weren't great but it was fun to drive. The gear system was the same on the MSTS version but I remember reading because of MSTS limtations you did not have to take off the throttle to change gear, I believe this is necessary on the real train? Is it also a limitation of RW that it's not necessary to throttle down to change gear?
Please correct me if I'm wrong. superb model Derek, can't wait for passenger view, and thanks to Richard for the great sounds.

On the real thing, you have to wait about 2 seconds for the revs to drop before you change gear.

Very food addition indeed but there does seem to be an issue with the doors. If you open them when at a station but not at a designated stop I find the doors won't close again until you next arrive at an appointed station stop.

I discovered this immediately when running the scenario that begins at Darlington. I pressed T to load passengers, as you frequently have to do at the beginning of a scenario, though on this occasion it's not required. I then found myself running all the way to Durham with the doors wide open. This has never happened to me before in RW. Haven't yet had time to see whether it's now a general feature or just a glitch with the 101

Had a quick drive earlier on this morning. :D
Let me say first of all model-wise this an absolutely fantastic model, and is obviously a labour of love from 'wor Derek. A pleasure to drive I must say. Nevertheless there a few flies in the ointment...

1. I would have liked to hear more sounds from within the cab; the hiss of the vacuum brake being applied, and the characteristic grind of the engine which were very audible inside.
2. As already mentioned the rear power car seems to make a strange noise... it seems that whenever there is more than one powered unit in RW something is broken whether it be sounds, exhaust, drivers whatever. From a programming point of view, should there not be a sort of conduit between all the members of a consist to regulate things like sound behaviour etc.?
3. Why is there a driver in the rear cab? I assume for the same reason why there is a driver in the rear cabs of all multiple-unit formations in RW. Obviously legacy code from RS, but I wish RSC would fix this once and for all! ;)

One of my few criticisms is the strange EMU-type sound that you hear when a 101 passes you at speed.

The hiss of the vacuum brake should be in there, check out the videos above which include the sound. I admit however that when recording, the engine was nearly always rising in revs due to the geared nature of how it runs, the transmission noise never stayed at the same pitch whilst recording inside so I couldn't get a loopable sound which could later be manipulated in the sim. The engine only kept relatively at the same revs at one point and at the point I was recording external sounds and that's where the engine sound we have now has come from.

Apologies about this but I did the best I could with what I recorded.

The 'strange EMU' sound has been explained above. There are basically two options with the sounds:
1) Have it so it sounds like the revs are increasing after every gear change.
OR
2) Get rid of this meaning the revs sound the same just after a gear change than just before and the AI/rear power unit sounds more realistic although still with a delayed reaction.
OR (which isn't possible yet)
3) RPM is simulated correctly within the sim so revs will increase after every gear change and also sound realistic on AI/rear power car unit.

On the lack of engine sounds, is it possible that you were driving from a trailer car??

On the door opening thing, this affects all models - certainly I've seen it on the DT MkIs.

Remember, when building 101 consists, that at least 50% of the consist should be made up of powercars.
