It's gorgeous! You sure can tell how many hours this has been worked on; the whole thing is nearly exquisite. The gearing is brilliant and lets you get so much more involved in driving. I had some practice with that on the Oxford-Didcot scenario and then took it for a ride around on my own. It's really rather superb
Ooh, picture...

We need smellovision as well - do they have that distinctive slightly damp, smokey, dusty smell that so much of the coaching stock (and these DMUs) used to have. Also need running condensation on the windows for the passenger views in Winter

Great model, love the destination boards, next stop Manchester picadilly

Although i think the cab sounds could be a little better, bit more engine noise

although i cant say much as ive barely took her out yet

Im not too sure of the horn either, sounds a bit weak to me, and my brake sounds appear to be missing

In fact, I never did get a namecheck for all the "heads" he did, but Adam is also one of them
Also, there's a rather eye-catchingly-clothed young lady in one of the units
Absolutely cracking model and I'm now in the doghouse 'cause I told the missus I'd be but half an hour. That was an hour ago

.!
I've had it five minutes and I've broken it! Purchased from Steam no probs, but got the 'wobbly cab' effect on the first play. Casting my mind back to the recent purchase of Sly's excellent 9F (where I had the same jelly cab effect), I went into the package manager and uninstalled the Class 101. Now, I can't find it again to reinstall?!!? Arrgggggghhhh!!!!!! The folder is still present in the assets file, but only contains the audio files. Steam confirms I've just purchased it and it is available as DLC, but I cant find it again to re-install!!??? Please help guys! Waited all evening for this and i've knackered it already!

Verify your cache, let it scan, then Steam will redownload the 101. Any changes to default content will be put back to default settings though.
Or delete the Class 101 ncf file in your steamapps folder (i think that's the folder). Close steam and restart it and it should redownload the 101

Thanks for the quick reply. Will do that now. Derek, awesome DMU. Really very very good indeed. One thing though, unless its my driving, I'm getting a very high pitched diesel engine noise that is drowning everything else out? When I got it into 2nd gear and started to open the throttle, the revs climbed to an ear splitting crescendo. This then stayed throughout the drive, deadening all the other sounds? It was the Didcot Down 2 scenario and I do confess, I had tweaked it with RW works to make the unit a DMBS+DMCL 'power twin', instead of the original power trailer set. Would this have anything to do with it and the jelly cab?

How's the exhaust on this thing? From all the videos I watched this thing spit out clag like it was going out of style. Standard issue smoke emitters or we have some dynamic smoke goodness this time around?

Yeah, apologies about that Jim. It's a problem that occurs in driving motor cars that are not actually being driven such as a rear DMBS or DMCL. This is the case so to produce the sound effect of the revs revving up after every gear change, the gear lever position has to be a factor in what pitch the sounds play. It would seem though that the undriveable unit doesn't read what gear lever position is being used in the front driveable unit so doesn't apply the correct pitch value. This results in the front driveable unit sounding correct and the rear one not so. It basically boils down to the RPM not quite being simulated as it should be (if this is fixed the sounds will be fixed) at the moment so other tactics had to employed to achieve the sound effect of the revs revving up after every gear change.

Richard,
Thanks very much for that little insight. I will have to further tweak the scenario! Power trailer it is then. All I wanted was four rusty pipes spewing white smoke..............
That reminds me actually, my only sighting of a Class 110 (as made famous by Hornby). A hybrid power twin set, made up of a 110 DMBS and a 108 DMS at Manchester oxford road, circa 1990. The 110 was in s**t state. Holes in the exhausts, dents on the body, paint flaking and totally filthy. If someone can recreate that I'd be in heaven!!

I've already fallen in love with the old bucket of bolts
And to cap it all I've even worked out how to change the destination board

Got the 101 earlier tonight, beautiful model, very highly detailed, I love the choice of liveries and sheer number of consists we can put together. The interactivity is certainly good, plenty of buttons and levers to mess around with and a gear system to get used to. The sound quality is excellent and very fitting to the 101, very much a enjoyable ride. I look forward to the update later on which will provide the passenger view, on that note aswell its nice to see higher quality looking passengers. Its been a nice wait for this DMU and now that it is available there is certainly going to be the option of adding them onto plenty of routes as they cover such a large portion of time, even the last ones got retired in 2007 so it allows for old era and new era to have these beauties. Thanks Derek for providing this to the community and well done on a splendid release, now you can sit back for awhile
Pic from the newcastle scenario I just finished up on:
