Altering window glass opacity?
Hi,
I have never really been a fan of tinted windows (eg, class60,Just Trains) and would appreciate if someone could tell me how i might adjust the opacity of the cab windows.
Thankyou for your help

Hmmm, interesting idea if it can be done at 'user' level.

I honetly dont know mate.I was hoping that someone would step forward and advise something like,go find this and then do that or even, its overly complicated and not to waste my time as i would likely do more harm than good which would be fair enough.

I'll tell you what then. If no one plays with this by the time I get home tonight and has an answer for you. (don't get home for another 8hrs) I will play around with the glass and see if anything is possible for you and report back.
I'd do it on my laptop but dummy me accidently put Steam online and I have over a gig of updates it started downloading which Sprint would kill me for doing over an aircard.
So, Railworks at work is unplayable at work for the time being.

Re: Altering window glass opacity?
Yep, that's the stuff. Darken the alpha channel to make the glass more transparent, change the texture colour to adjust the tinting colour. Make sure you don't compress the texture or you'll probably get some funny artifacting.styckx wrote:Alpha channel and paint adjustment on the glass texture maybe?

Re: Altering window glass opacity?
Hi there...
Some - and ONLY some locomotive models privately made, Not by RailSimulator.com, I mean, seem to have the modellers' preference as to what looks "realistic" or not, with the forward view out the drivers' windscreen. The Class 50 diesel, or a couple of the earlier types of British diesel locos, seems to make it very frustrating to look for long on forward view. The reflecions of the inner cab desk or instruments, whatever, seem to obstruct the driving of what is basically a very good model, otherwise. With these locos, I tend to get so frustrated, that I simply "put my head out" so I can see better, and with far less obstruction. The Class 47 is my real preference for a good, and clear driving viewpoint, and I wish to Heaven that all RW model diesels had such a clear view, and the modeller might ask us beforehand, as to what (by poll, perhaps ??) the majority of us prefer as to the opacity of the drivers' view out the cab window... say, "avoid reflections, or maybe the minimum of reflections... or whatever is the highest count of preference. Sure, I know you can't please everybody, but a clear forward view is of essence for comfortable driving, of course, and if we're expected to par rather steep fees for the purchase of some models, we should be offered a voting choice as to the majority of choice, how we prefer to drive, not always that of the clever modeller (with due respect, of course). Cheers.
Regards...

Hmmmm.. whatever it takes (by anyone other than myself, preferrably) to do this, but I absolutely hate fiddling around with files that might get messed up, otherwise, and would be very appreciative of (with the author's permission, actually) a simple replacement file that could make the windscreen of your choice, lighter or darker as it goes, and with an auto-backup feature, to copy the original file, before it gets replaced, so you can go back to how it originally was if you don't like what you now have. Worth a thought, if someone thinks it's not too much work, of course.davveb wrote:Yep, that's the stuff. Me too, I dont like the darkened windows, when I'm "driving" I like see everything nice and clearly.
I've only the the Talylyn Railway and the otherways Class 56 from IHH with darkened glass.

Why don't make both possibilities available for the user.
Give the user the opportunity to change the files.
Just include them in the download.

Re: Altering window glass opacity?
Hi, had a play with the class 24 windscreen yesterday & got as far as saving as a dds file. Tried converting it with RW tools to TgPcDx & failed with header missing error so am assuming you can only edit if you have the source files or a better way of editing - I tried & burned with DXTBmp & paint!

Re: Altering window glass opacity?
I managed to save as a DDs file but photoshop wouldnt open it because of something like "error on disk".When i did manage this with another tool and then wanted to resave as a TgPcDX,i got the same "no header" message as yourself.
I did try a few different ideas but in the end they didnt work
