New Routes for Railworks?
Hello--
I am a new user to railworks and the rail simulation world. Having recently purchased and downloaded Railworks i was wondering if there are any addon's such as kings cross to newcaslte and london to manchester or birmingam, places like that. Kings cross to peterbrough i have seen but i dont think it works in railworks. Or, is there any distes were i can simply download the entire route and then i could just add the scenerios into the rail simulation myself.
Also, could any experiences rail simulation people give me some handy tips for rail works.
Thanks.

Hi and Welcome JP
There is a route under development that can be found at ftp://railworksdepot.co.uk/EMCL/ECML/
You will also find a number of very good free routes on this site. My personal favorites are Wales & Boarders 3, South Devon Banks and the Big Layout 2.
Brousing posts in this forum (not the moaning min ones) They contain many useful hints and tips
Enjoy
Frank

Re: New Routes for Railworks?
Welcome aboard the crazy train ride that is sometimes Railworks!
Just to clarify, route addons that you see for MSTS will not work in Railworks.
There have only been a few commercial releases for Railworks - York to Newcastle "Modern" (a rework of the default route), Isle of Wight and GARL. Bristol to Exeter has been in production since RW's predecessor Rail Simulator days and there's a Scottish route based on Edinburgh to Dundee currently being built.
I've contributed three routes to the file library plus a fourth (Far North Wick to Thurso) that was built for Rail Simulator but works in Railworks.
If you go back through the forums you will find the issue of longer routes has been discussed at legth (no pun intended). Generally route building in Railworks is more involved and time consuming than it's predecessors. There are a few ambitious freeware projects WIP such as various parts of the WCML but the focus has tended to be on releasing shorter more detailed routes.

Re: New Routes for Railworks?
Other commercial works in progress include a German route by German Railroads, and two Canadian routes by Trackside Productions (the former Streamlines). Of already released stuff you also have mr Garber's three routes Rascal & Cottonwood, Colton & Northern and Fort Kent to Eagle Lakebigvern wrote:Welcome aboard the crazy train ride that is sometimes Railworks!

Re: New Routes for Railworks?
Hi jp2291 and welcome to the Forum,
Commercial Routes are the best way to go to add extra Routes to your RailWorks installation in the beginning, until you have a 'feel' for how Railworks works.
If you want to add additional 'freeware' Routes to your RW installation, then the UKTS Library is good place to make a start (You will also find bigvern's routes there
). Read carefully what other files are required in addition to the Route download.

Also, I strongly recommend you get this Utility ( for checking for Problems with RW as well as heaps of other things) if you are adding "Extra's" to expand your enjoyment of RailWorks, you have a trial period for about 21 days and then you need to make a contribution to help Mike continue his hard work with RWTools. Give it a go you will never look back.
Mike Simpsons excellent Utility - RWTools, available here:

Also well worth having a look at are the short routes that were built in one week at the end of 2009 as part of the Railworks Route Building Challenge all of which are available from the UKTS library see:. http://forums.uktrainsim.com/viewforum.php?f=321

Yes sorry forgot about RG's US routes, though I got the impression OP primarily interested in UK stuff.
Also honourable mention to Phorum Peninsula which is a charityware route available through Steam.

I was able to access it via http://www.railworksdepot.co.uk/downloads.html, and then via the ECML directory.msey0002 wrote:Hi Frank, you need a login and password for that link. Any other way we can view development?

Re: New Routes for Railworks?
Then of course there's the route RSDerek is working on. I guess this'll be an 'official' RS.com release thru Steam, considering he is part of the team?

I think this is actually a labour of love and not part of the RS.com activities.USRailFan wrote:Then of course there's the route RSDerek is working on. I guess this'll be an 'official' RS.com release thru Steam, considering he is part of the team?

OK, I figured it'd probably be an 'official' release as RSDerek is part of the RS.com team, but you may well be right of course.

Re: New Routes for Railworks?
I'm surprised no-one has mentioned the lovely Port Road, available from the UKTS Library.
Expanding the TS wagon fleet.

The route is still very much track only but I have driven it from York to Kings Cross (about 188 miles)
Another source of add-ons (mostly for stock re-paints etc) is http://rs-trainsim.co.uk/
