Just Trains - "Northern Lights" Route?

Re: Just Trains - "Northern Lights" Route?
Considering that the 380s were meant to have been used on the route in the real-world, as the only type of traction, I really fail to see what would be wrong about including it. I for one would NOT buy a payware route if it did not come with any scenarios and rolling stock at all - I guess in some people's eyes that makes me a whining crybaby, but oh well...
Re: Just Trains - "Northern Lights" Route?
I think what Steve is trying to say is that he would rather the route be sold by itself without the 380, and then the 380 separatism, so thus those who do not wish to purchase the 380 can purchase the route at the lower price. I think its a fair idea, since the 380 was sold separately anyway

Re: Just Trains - "Northern Lights" Route?
Hi
The route building question is an intresting one,i have my doubts about the commercial viability of route building, because no matter what anybody says route building in RW takes time, time, time! and time is money, putting together a fictional route is less demanding than a real life route, but thats not taking anything away from fictional routes, there are some cracking and absorbing freeware fictional routes to download, payware is a different kettle of fish, and i agree with Vern,i have only purchased one route for RW and that is I.O.W because it was factual and totaly new and good value for money for what was included,i would love some of the assets from GARL but the price is way to high for what is a short uninspiring route,to be fair GARL was never intended as a commercial route, i belive it was intended as a comercial sim for driver route learning so lush scenery would not have been nescesary, and as the real route seems to have been put on long term hold, the developers i guess are trying to recoup some of the development costs.
It is true that these and other RW forums are monitored by commercial companys looking to snap up a promising looking route in development, add a few custom assets, and put a price tag on it,let me say there is nothing wrong with that, if that is the route(pardon the pun)you wish to take, companys are desperate for routes, and creating there own inhouse would seem to be just not economically viable, even i have had two approaches from companys about an inprogress route ,which i refused, i nailed my colors to the freeware mast years ago, because i belive the hobby side of RW is its salvation, and the hobby is the most important thing!to me anyway.
Regards
Kevin

Hm... I wonder, why not complete the route to Aberdeen? But only to Dundee? I'd prefer to wait a couple of months extra, and then buy a Edinburgh - Aberdeen route, instead of a Edinburgh - Dundee route, in a couple of weeks.

I with you on that one, though I am a little biased. I spent most of my teenage trainspotting on the end of the platforms at AberdeenLundeSDK wrote:Hm... Expanding the TS wagon fleet.
Re: Just Trains - "Northern Lights" Route?
I guess the main attraction of going to Dundee only would be if the Type 2 loco hauled services from the mid-eighties were included, hence my suggestion that a Class 27 or similar with the pack would be nice. Many of the Edinburgh-Dundee's were loco hauled at this time, prior to arrival of the Sprinter fleet.

Hmm, They would be very useful on your further north line as well Vern - remember doing that run behind a 27 in my trainspotter days

Or even down the Sulitjelma which I must admit in places is reminiscent of the Kyle line.markpullinger wrote:Hmm, They would be very useful on your further north line as well Vern - remember doing that run behind a 27 in my trainspotter days
Anyhow back on topic and to balance any undue negativity, I still wish Mully luck with the route and it will definitely be on the shopping list, personal reservations notwithstanding (unless of course JT charge something daft like £40!).

Re: Just Trains - "Northern Lights" Route?
I may be wrong, but, I think Mully's finished doing the route now and as it was complete up to Dundee and Perth, that may be the cut off point. I would have loved him to go to Inverness and up to Aberdeen, but, maybe real life got in the way instead. It'll be worth getting anyway, and I'm personally hoping that as JT are doing the release they may even make it a boxed download version as well.
