Thank you for confirming it was your route Mully. I have the beta and I for one will be buying the payware version of this wonderful route.

Re: Just Trains - "Northern Lights" Route?
Hmm, the real bridge is 'only' 150 feet above High Water. I've had the pleasure of watching the concerned look on the face of the captain of HMS Intrepid as we made our way under the bridge towards Rosyth - the top of her mast was about 140ft above sea level. He was glad there wasn't much of a swell running, but it was still a close call between hitting the top of the ship on the bottom of the bridge or the bottom of the ship on the seabedTransportSteve wrote:Probably more to do with getting the climbs lined up for the bridge when it's been constructed, rather than a real life prototypical representation of the area. You're still hundreds of feet in the air anyway flying over that container ship, I wouldn't want to go any higher, I'd get air sickness.......malkymackay wrote:The climbs either side of the Forth Bridge are twice as steep as real life in the current free version![]()

It will be interesting to see how this compares with the freeware BVE route which allows you to drive all the way from Edinburgh to Aberdeen for nothing more than the download bandwidth.
Good luck to the author but while I can understand the reasons or maybe even temptations for going payware, it does make me begin to feel like the "last man standing" when it comes to doing freeware routes.
Just make sure you've got a good deal with the publisher (and no liability for returns costs), as my own experience of doing payware for MSTS was less than satisfactory when it came to renumeration. Take off income tax on the royalties and the money was certainly not worth the time, sweat and threat to marriage etc. that went into it. I believe there have also been cases of fingers burned (maybe not with JT) when authors have suddenly been presented instead of a royalty cheque but a bill for product that never sold.

Vern, how can you possibly say that you feel like the "last man standing" with regards to freeware routes? Does that mean you are now the only guy producing freeware for Railworks?

Re: Just Trains - "Northern Lights" Route?
Having spent a lot of time up and down the route testing - even in its unfinished state it looks a real winner to me. Route looks more realistic if you have the Voyager and Class 158 add ons with Mully's re-skins for Scotrail.
Appreciate the sentiments re payware v freeware but I can understand the desire to get a big project to its audience years earlier. I would be prepared to pay for things like this, South Devon Banks, Wales and Borders, Tennessee Pass etc. I know bigger routes are a gigantic effort to produce and real life gets in the way and if paying gets them produced so be it. Not to say that I or anyone would not secretly like them as freeware.
Vern - things like Further North that you produced are also worth it in terms of payware given the quality.
Hats off to all route producers

Re: Just Trains - "Northern Lights" Route?
I'd also add that Vern's fantastic North Yorkshire Moors route is also worthy of Payware status, but, then again Vern's layouts are always exceptional, we are honoured to be given things for free by all creators alike.

Oh I'll probably still be buying it as a fan of all things Scottish and I'm sure Mully has done a fantastic job - Class 37 over the Forth Bridge on Load 12 is a must!

Is that a 166 reskin in this screenshot or something new?

A reskin of the 166. Mullly has done a lot of reskins for this route.

Re: Just Trains - "Northern Lights" Route?
Looks like the beta Mully referred to as still being available earlier in the thread has been removed. Can anyone confirm or am I being blind (as usual!)?

The Beta has been withdrawn I think, but he did say on our site "Please note my reskins and Freeware stuff will still be available to all".

Re: Just Trains - "Northern Lights" Route?
I hve been enjoying the different betas of this route for quite some time, and am proud to consider myself a friend of Mully's, so I am really happy for him and wish him all the best with his commenrcial venture. I know how much work has been put into this and I am really looking forward to the final version of the route, which I will be buying as soon as it becomes available.
