Hi

I currently have MSTS which I have been using since it came out and have stuck with it.
I have seen screnshots and videos of other Sims and would like to have a go at something different for a while.
I am currently looking at Railworks or Railsimulator. Ive been browsing the web to get some background info but to me they look identical.

What is the actual difference between them and the hardest question of them all which no one can really answer, which one should i get?

Railworks is Railsimulator2 so you'll want to buy Railworks as it is the newest version.

It's simple, really.

RailWorks is the current iteration of RailSimulator and the future of the franchise.

Get yourself a Steam account, if you haven't already, and purchase RailWorks.

What is Steam? Ive seen it on forums but dont actually know what it is.

It's basically a gaming delivery service. All your games are delivered digitally and, on the default settings, Steam keeps everything up to date for you.

Yes, you should have no problems, but don't port the RS Default routes, as these will overwrite newer content in the RW default routes.

In 99% of cases yes, but I do believe there have been a couple of exceptional cases involving RS content not working properly in RW. Nothing to worry about since it is the extreme exception. RW has the same folder structure as RS and will even import RS packages (filename.rpk) as well as newer RW packages (filename.rwp). All payware addons for RS are either fully compatible with RW or have been re-released for RW.

I can definitely recommend making the jump as a previous user of MSTS, then RS and now RW. If you head to http://www.railsimulator.com/en/tradeup/ you can get details on how to get a discount for swapping from MSTS to RW. What I would recommend is getting the tradeup discount and then immediately spending it (and a bit more) on the Isle of Wight route (available through Steam) as the scenery and foliage assets included are required quite often by third-party routes.

My advice is get Railworks over Rail Simulator.
why?

RWs has more routes, more rolling stock, more updates, more features, more support and more DLC. Updates are ongoing and seamless, if you are logged onto Steam you are using the latest version and no need to look for patches or upgrades.

The only bonus RS has over RWs is you don't need an internet connection to activate it.
