I doesn't need just one site, if RSC see benefit in having exposure on the social networking sites that's fine by me, but I'd suggest that in the interests of user friendliness, one of the sites should have all the news. That would certainly make life easier for those of us who don't, for whatever reason, routinely visit the disparate locations across which the snippets are currently scattered.

I'll go for that Andy. If information is spread here, there and everywhere, then at some point it is all going to lose any sort of sync.

I am happy though that RS.com need to "spread the word" and that is fine, as long as the "masterlist" remains in one place.

hi, ...

The only good thing is the advertising by distributing Railworks content to different platforms.
And apparently it costs no money.

Only for the user Railworks seek information, it becomes confusing.

Just by the way:
Twitter reminds me of the fat neighbor always talked for hours with my mother as a child ..

What the hell RSC?!!

You have a blog that is available for EVERYONE to view... how about using that rather than squirreling information away on some social friends network site where people have to sign up to join your gang?!

Are you REALLY that insecure that you need to know how many friends you have

Seriously, very very poor move guys :-?

They are a business first and foremost. Any good business will reach out and use as many resources as possible to make themselves, and their name more accessible and just generally more "out there".

I fail to see how this is a "bad move". It's not like RS are going to lose customers in droves because they are exploiting the use of a social media outlet to further help promote their product.

Aha, my bad! My assumption was that the links from Twitter where all I got was a command to "click the Discussion Tab" and a link to join Facebook was all I was going to get.
Apparantly you have to navigate to the RSC main facebook page, THEN you can see the useful stuff.

I do love a user friendly UI :P

In response to Styckx, I agree.. duplication of their information is good for business.
Spreading your press releases over 4 different locations and making your customers (and supporters) run around the net chasing you seems pretty stupid however.

That part I understand. I'm sure it will be streamlined where the same stuff is put at all locations.

See, myself I hate twitter with a passion, but prefer facebook to stay in touch with friends in family so it's much more convienent for me to just have the news feeds appear there instead. One less website I have to make my rounds to. Different strokes for different folks. :)

Sorry to say Chris it is not all twaddle, it may not be for everyone but you can not argue with the numbers.
Twitter is a great way to tell you who's making the coffee, blogger for little quick fetaures and Facebook is just a way to share info/comments and link them all together.
All point back to our website (which will evolve very soon) where we live, the other sites all reach out to different people.

Anyway most of you guys here all have the inside track because you have direct access to me.
:)

Hope you all can enjoy the holidays with this wet and cold weather.

Happy Easter to you as well Derek, however, I had to laugh when I saw you'd written this, as if people NEED to know who makes the damn coffee in your office........Typical Twitter and Facebook genre twaddle, well, to us adults anyway. The thing is though that certain market research shows that the majority of people who adorn these sites are allegedly under the age of 14, so, I don't know how they're going to be able to afford to purchase all the merchandise that RailSimulator currently sells, to get the full benefit of this game.....Unsure if this is a marketing ploy, or, your office is full of twits, er sorry, Twitters, and they need to increase their circle of friends....You've undoubtedly opened a can of worms on this issue.

Cheerz. Transport Steve.

Web 1.0 is just fine by me thanks. I get spammed to hell with useless repetitive information as it is.

As to who makes the coffee? Tschh. You are wasting your lives posting that.

BTW: I'm not normally this grumpy... : :D

Personnally speaking, I think it can only help extend the reach of RailWorks and Rail Sims in general, at very low cost.

It's probably best aimed at existing users of Facebook rather than getting new users onto Facebook...those existing users probably have a few like minded friends, who may not have thought about RailSim's, and may not have RailWorks. The theory is that I've become a fan of this page, and now my friends on facebook know I've done that. If they want to, they can also become fans, and then they get alerted to the content, which then leads to a potential sale.
In my case, a number of my friends on Facebook are model engineers, and I know many of them are also either in Pre-tirement, or retirement, and thus have time to spend on creating routes they are passionate about. Many of them are ex-drivers too, and some signalmen...But I also know they don't do Rail-Sims (YET!)
On top of that, another chunk of friends are Uni students & lecturers, in engineering topics, and RailWorks is a very good technical simulation of train mechanics. Extending to the younger generation is crucial for the RailWorks franchise to continue - which is what the guys at RS.com probably want

Facebook pages are also good for viral marketing, where my friend's friends see it, and it expands....

All RailWorks needs now is a free trial period (that's what put me off buying it until quite recently!), to ensure it works on their hardware.

So many grumps.

Guys, if it's not for you then don't use it, simple.
(I know it's not everyones cup a tea but it is always important to know who's making it)

Steve, we have done our research. (btw my comment about the coffee was a joke) twitter is a great way for Dan and Adam and the other guys to let you know what they are doing on a daily basis, it's not news but still interesting in it's own way.

Now we know this interweb cyber world is not for everyone, but ignoring it would be a bit daft don't you think?

Also, all of these things do not impact on the Dev team much other than us gathering the screen shots.

happy holidays.

Derek,

Don't forget that the grumpy ones are helping to pay your wages. Upset us too much and we might stop doing that .

Happy Easter!

Andy I fail to see how giving more information out across the net can upset anyone, if anything I see users upsetting themselves.

People don't like change, I don't like change, If I had my way i would still be living in my little dingy flat. As it is my wife dragged me away and forced me to live in a nice comfortable house.
