Hmm..a complete re-install didn't work for me. I will try again, making sure I delete all traces of the program.

Is it actually possible to just un-install the latest update and go back to the previous version? After all, that worked fine for me. Or could I re-install and block the program from updating itself?

Thanks

stefan

Sorry to keep whining here, but after another day trying all sorts it still doesn't work.

I did a complete re-install deleting all traces of RailWorks and Steam, i installed the latest PhysX driver (there is a new one out by Nvidia) and did all the "delete blueprint" etc. stuff as suggested above.

Still no luck! The faulty module is called GameManager.dll

Looks like RailWorks is gone for good. Do customers with problems like that after an update get their money back?

Thanks

I have also been trying without success to solve the same problem. I deleted railworks and any other related files I could find and ran my registry cleaner. Still the same problem. I tried using system restore to go back to before I updated the graphics drivers but both attempts failed.
I suppose the next option will be to try one of the uninstallers mentioned on another thread and yet another down load and re-install. If I find a fix then I shall post but to be honest I am running out of ideas. I shall e.mail the support at railworks about the problem. If all those similarly affected do the same and also send the logfile then hopefully the railworks team will be able to investigate the problem. It seems to be linked to the n.vidia drivers so others may come forward with the same issue.
Yours, suffering RW withdrawal,
Dave.

Hi

I know I'd find this massively frustrating if it were happening to me.

Has either of you tried enabling LogMate under Command Line Options to see whether it throws anything up?

Hi Bob!

Thanks for that advice.

Also, I forgot to write this earlier, when the game crashes I get the message that the faulty module is GameManager.dll and then it says that RailWorks Proc2.exe has stopped working. The faulty module here is Stack Hash_5b53

Here is what logmate gave me. I am sorry for posting all of it but I am not sure what is relevant and what isn't.

I have sent an e-mail with a dump-file to RailWorks support. Hopefully others have done so as well so they can figure out a way to get us back on track (excuse the pun) again :-)

Thanks again for all the help so far

Re: What has happened

Post by valiant222 »

Hi all again. What I failed to mention  when I finally got Railworks to run was that I used an older nVidia driver, 195.62 for Windows XP, turned off my PC Tools Antivirus, turned off Steam, made sure that nothing was running in the background and disconnected from the internet.

Again, which of these actions resulted in success I don't know but I would suspect it was the nVidia driver as it would appear that some users having this problem are using nVidia graphic cards.

I may be wrong, I usually am, but Railworks might just have changed something in the core program using the update that the newer drivers don't like.

Just a thought.

Finally got on the computer this evening and tried the sim with logfile enabled.
The last few lines of the readout are reproduced below. It is notable that the freeze happened in exactly the same place as in the printout above. It would be intertesting if somebody could post a logfile from the working version of the sim to see if the load trainsflora.fx procedure is the final loading operation before going into the simulation (the point at which the graphics have some real work to do).

[Content 20:21:01] Trace C:\Dev\RailWorksRelease\Code\Libs\Heracles\Engine\Draw\DxCommon\cHcEffectDx.cpp : 134 = Creating effect TrainViewFacingFlora.fx
[Content 20:21:02] Trace C:\Dev\RailWorksRelease\Code\Libs\Heracles\Engine\Draw\DxCommon\cHcEffectDx.cpp : 134 = Creating effect TrainEnv.fx
[Content 20:21:04] Trace C:\Dev\RailWorksRelease\Code\Libs\Heracles\Engine\Draw\DxCommon\cHcEffectDx.cpp : 134 = Creating effect TrainFlora.fx

I have already installed a tried and tested older version of the n.vidia drivers but this has not fixed the problem either.
Will send a report to the developers and keep trying things.

I have finally got Railworks running again.
For those still having problems, I uninstalled anything I could find with n.vidia written on it. I then went into the program files folder and deleted the nvidia folder that remained. Following that I ran Registry Mechanic to clean up any stray registry entries.
Ithen re-installed my old graphics drivers and tried railworks.
This time I immediately got an error message saying "cannot find PhysXLoader.dll, Please re-install railworks". After deleting Railworks, downloading it (again) I clicked the launcher........... and got the same error message as before.
I then installed the current physx driver and this time everything worked fine.
Hope that this will be of use to somebody.
Happy now.

Hi fsclips,

Regarding your logmate o/p, the Assertion Failure is telling me that you have tried to load a route with a turntable in it. Most likely Didcot.

The missing blueprints are route marker files missing from attempting to use objects from the IOW libraries.

Not sure about the ribbon error. What route and scenario were you trying to load?

Re: What has happened

Hi all!

I found the culprit with the help of the nice RailWorks people!

It is the PhysX driver! If you update your drivers on a regular basis your PhysX driver will be updated as well.
This is what to do if you are still having problems:

Go to:
C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\railworks\Install
(if you haven't RailWorks installed in its default location go to the equivialent folder)

Within this folder is PhysX_6.10.25_SystemSoftware.exe

Run this setup to re-install PhysX (the physics system used by RailWorks). You may need to uninstall PhysX first if a current install exists.

I was on PhysX 9. something, so had to go back quite a way. I guess no more updating of driversfor a while.
I tried to run one of the default routes (Seeberg - back anf forth) and played the whole scenario withot problems.

I hope this is of any help. May I say thank you to all of you trying to help! Communities like this are rare these days on the internet :-)

As I started this thread, I can now update you all with this breaking news:

Hurrah.. Hurrah and oh deep joy :drinking: :D :D . I can now use Railworks complete with Raildriver. It's back to where it was before the update.

Still don't know what I did. The PhysX driver in use is the same one that comes with the latest nVidia driver although I downloaded it seperately. As I said in an earlier post I am using an older driver.

In future, I will stick to Nvidia drivers I've got :)

Thanks again to everybodys' input into this thread.

 until the next time

Hi

If it is of any help .. I never update my NVIDIA drivers deliberately (unless it is being done automatically without me knowing). I work on the basis that if the card is working OK then there is no need to mess around with it. I have very few problems with my installations of RailWorks and it may be because of this.

I know we are encouraged to always have the latest driver but I do not think that is always best.

I should have followed that old maxim, If it ain't broke, don't fix it. But of course, that assumes we know that it ain't broke. In this case, it could have been.

Anyway it's all running hunky dory now.
