I got my new computer yesterday and have the luxury of using this computer for RailWorks only, for a while.

I have only installed programs necessary for railworks operations and did a new install of Steam and Railworks

including updating by Steam. I have downloaded the update of RSDL IOW from Just Trains and loaded that. Railworks

ran OK with no errors.

Installed IOW 3.0 and copied Assets previously installed, as I did want to go through the lengthy installation of

all the assets, though I do have copies of the Asset files I downloaded if necessary.

Scenario supplied with IOW 3.0 loaded and ran OK but on using F2 Save it crashed with usual error message.

Loaded my own scenario used previously. Had problems, as program could not find some assets, though RW-Tools showed

none missing and they were present in the Assets folder. Having cleared that problem using RW-Tools, program ran OK,

Saved using F2 and Continued correctly just in the region Ryde to SmallBrook Junction. In all other places so far

checked Save appeared to be OK with no error at that time but would not Continue, giving error messages as described

before.

From these observation it would appear that, for me, the only problem is the Save and Continue.

Still have large amount of entries in LogMate even after correcting RouteProperties.xml

In case it has any bearing on my result, my new computer spec is as follows.

Processor Intel i5 750
Motherboard Gigabyte GA-P55-USB3
Memory 6Gb Corsair DDR3 1600 Mhz
2 off WD 500Gb SATA hard drives Black Cavier,WD5001AALS, one for OS and one for Steam
Graphics card HD 5770
Microsoft Windows Home Premium 64-bit

Hi Norman
Welcome to the nightmare that is IOW Network.
Me and Justin are pleased that took the time to help us; to figure out whats is screwing the save facility, it is way over my head when you talk about the dark side of the sim,
I'm the first to admit it.
My passion is building the route i get more enjoyment out of building , than running trains.
There are 4 in the team, who are Justin, Mark, Jeff, and me Ian. And anyone is welcome to join in, be it models, advice or solutions, its a community route that's to say, the glory goes to all

Kind Regards
Ian

Hi Ian. I can now understand why you say you have lost the will to live. This Save problem is just crazy.

Earlier today I could, with no known alterations to the program, Save and Continue on some tiles that yesterday
always gave an error.

Yesterday I had a consist parked at Havenstreet station going West and could not Save and Continue in the region of
the station.

Earlier today I accidentally found out that if I reversed the consist out of the station it would Save and Continue
correctly. Having suceeded with that I can now Save and Continue when going in the forwards direction even !!!!

However, if I turn the computer off then on, and then restart Railworks, the the errors are as yesterday.

With further playing about I accidentally found that if I Saved at Havenstreet, on the first try at Continue it
would give an error but, if after closing RailWorks entirely then restarting, if I tried Continue again, it worked.

What is going on ?? Something must be remaining in memory until the computer is turned off. Checking the amount of
free memory shows 4306 MB before starting RailWorks but only 3510 MB when it has run and been closed.

I have tried this double Continue trick many times now and always, if it gave an error at the first Continue attempt
it would operate correctly at the second Continue attempt. Useful to know but still does not help solve the problem.

I have now driven all the routes without any serious problem. I have not yet tried the various sidings but I do not
see why these should cause serious problems.

The minor problems I have encountered are

Most level crossings do not work correctly and stay closed, though the one at Carisbrooke works perfectly. At
several crossings, where the gates are either closed or open, cars are crossing and sometimes go under the train.

There are quite a number of places where Shrubs and foliage comes onto the track. The worst section is on the main
track near Brading Cement works.

There are several places where on FreePlay points are set so the train goes into a siding and crashes into the
buffers. Trivial but annoying when one is learning the route. This may be due to the position where I placed the
Consist but I would have expected the program to sort out a suitable route.

An excellent route which will be superb once all the scenery is up to the standard of that in the Ryde area.

For a while I shall keep this computer dedicated to RailWorks only so should not have any interferance with other
programs. If I can be of any help testing please let me know.

Norman

Possible solution to the F2 Save and Continue problem.

Quite accidentally I seem to have solved this problem, at least for my computers. I am using RW and my computers have been running XP, Vista and now Win 7.
My current Routeproperties.xml file ( railworks\Content\Routes\5097e264-8f40-400a-a2ab-6ac2bd926e44\Routeproperties.xml ) is different from the one when IOW 3.0 is loaded from UKTS-23300. Why, I do not know.
I have now traversed all of the major routes and have Saved and Continued many times on three different computers.
I have packaged my RouteProperties.xml file together with three Free Roam scenarios which I have used for testing.
I have loaded the package into SkyDrive at http://cid-8f7e31d5e4661f9f.skydrive.li ... ackage.rwp

The file and Scenarios can be installed using the RW Package Manager.

To test the new version of the file I have installed IOW 3.0 from UKTS 23300 and then deleted the included scenario as this always crashes my computers.
I have then installed the above package using RW Package Manager, thus overwriting the existing file.
Possibly unnecessarily, I have cleared the BluePrint Cache via Tools and Docs.

When I run the route now I get no crashes and can always Save and Continue. I would appreciate it if other members could check this and reply as to their results.

I have been unable to check this with Rail Simulator as I can't get the progam to install into Win 7.

If the results are positive I will load it into the Download Library.

I must complement the team that have produced this route, the Scenery is quite stunning where completed.

Hi Norman,

You are a "Genius".

Just tried what you suggested above, downloaded the 'package' from the Link you provided, deleted all the existing Scenario's. Installed the downloaded .rwp file and have run the 3 'new' Scenario using "Continue's" and all have worked fine.

Then on one of the Scenario's I saved again in a 'new' location, "Exited" the Scenario and then re-loaded using "Continue" and it worked a treat.

I'd like to do a bit more testing before I say it is all OK, but from first impressions it is fine.

Thanks for perservering and sorting this out for us, it will make a 'Great' Route 'Exceptional'.

Very well done.

P.S. I am running RW.

Hi Norman, Rob,

I haven't got round to trying Norman's solution yet, but if it is as good as it seems then this will be a great boost for Ian Beeby and the rest of us who have been keen to see the route become successful.
Ian was becoming quite exasperated by the problem.

All the best,

Jeff

Sorry Guys (and Gal's),

I'm afraid I have to report that during further testing today the dreaded Error (356), Line 113 error and Something Bad Error messages have re-appeared when "Continuing" after a 'Save' in certain areas of the Route.

Also, this then affects the other existing "Continues" for the replacement "Free Roam" scenario's provided by Norman and only by deleting the new 'troublesome' Scenario that you have made, can you re-use them. Everything is fine again though after deleting the scenario you have made with the 'Rogue' save.

The areas of the Route that I have found that cause a Rogue 'save' are:- Saves on the Sandown - Ventnor Branch and saves on the Newport - Cowes Branch, (so far).

On a more positive note, I can say that I have made lots of other successful 'Saves' and "Continues" in many other areas of the Route, Sandown - Ryde Pierhead and Ryde Pierhead - Newport with no problems whatsoever.

It could of course just be my set up, I would be interested to hear of other peoples findings with this.

Evening all!!

HAPPY NEWS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have just installed the Skydrive version of the Route, and as you can tell it works!! I have just upgraded from Vista to Windows 7 Ultimate this afternoon aswell.

The long and short of it, everything works as it should, plus Ian has done some new track formations for Shide area and automatic points instead of manual ones, mainlines are automatic, sidings are manuals due to shunting scenarios soon to come.

I have been chatting with Ian, and he will upload the route on to UKTS for this coming Bank Holiday weekend for us all to use and have fun with.

Now I have the route fully working, I am busy doing scenarios for the route, these will be tested by Ian, and the other people involved in the route, so there are no errors or conflicts for other users.

Many thanks again for Ian Beeby, Jeff Layfield, Mark Brintton, Norman and myself for having the patience to carry on with this route!!!

HAPPY DAYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Great News Justin,

Glad things have sorted themselves out and look forward to downloading the new version.

The only thing is my P/C has gone up the 'shoot' today, today of all days :( , and will be without RW for some time until I can get it repaired, but this will give me something to look forward to (along with the latest RW ugrade  ).

Thanks go to 'all' the IOW Network 3.0 team.

Afternoon all,

Many apologises but we are running late in uploading the IOW Network to UKTS. Ian and myself have found numerous problems with the track work, particually around the Ventnor and Wroxall area. Alot of cutting back has been done, so weeds and some trees are not a problem, also a couple of sidings have been moved, as I have found placing a loose consist on Siding 17 at Wroxall, my train for some reason, just clipped a wagon and decided to fall over!!

I am just waiting for a Track Patch' from Ian, to start scenario building for the 9th or 10th time, to include some scenarios for the route. I can't say when the route would be uploaded, but we are making a good head of steam.... sorry for the pun!!

KR
Justin.

Hi Justin,

Just wondered whether you had any further progress to report on this fabulous Route?

Hi,

I don't know how Justin is getting along with the solution to scenario problems but Ian, Mark and I are busy improving the route in our particular specialities.

Many thanks again to those who have helped Ian with the route including the contributors to this thread.

Longbow (David Gibbons) has been of great assistance in setting the SR ex LBSC(ex MSTS!) static carriages to actually run, though I am still struggling to get them into RW.

Jeff L

Great news! I was always disappointed that more stock wasn't included for the steam railway part of the original route. ie: adams 02 calbourne, terriers newport and freshwater, LBSCR bogie coaches........invinceable and 2 four wheeler carriages was a poor choice in my opinion. Although modelled very well i hasten to add! I live on the island and i'm fascinated by the history of our railways. Its such a pleasure to drive this route and each version just gets better and better! We desperately need an 02! Anyway, thanks to all involved! Kind Regards Matt(92212)
