Colin - you`re correct the system shut down for, I believe the winter, around 1966 whilst the remaining section was electrified. Steam was used on the works trains but as far as I know there was no overlap of Steam / Electric working.

Hello,

It was the winter of '66 and W24 'Calbourne' with her regular driver Ken West was used to do the engineering trains and push-pull the electric units for use on track clearances and platform gauge as the track needed to be lifted. i believe once they sorted that out, the engineers concentrated on track lifting in Ryde Tunnel, due to prone flooding, which still happens to this day!!

Incidentlly, 'Calbourne' pulled the last train out of Newport in 1971, with a lot of rolling stock, and finished up at Havenstreet, where she now is and the birth of the IOW Steam Railway was born.

Hi All

Great route which I used to travel on as a boy on holiday.

Have been using the previous version in RW ok.

I have installed v3, used RW tools corrected all paths etc but I also get the F2 lock up, trying to save the free roam scenario.

In playing around adding rolling stock is OK, but cloning this scenario and changing some rolling stock I still get the lock up on the cloned one.

Noting that some members have made their own scenario's which work I wonder whether it is the train / signal routings, because I noticed the following items,

Move a terrier out of the sidings, ground signals do not rotate on changing the points, should they?, and if you reverse into the St Johns platform and continue towards the pier, all the signal data in the bottom of the driver assistance window is haywire and does not match what is happening.

On adding a loco direct into the St Johns platform facing the pier this is then improved, but misses the distant signal at the Esplanade, on proceeding to the pier head and coupling to the SR coaches I get a complete consist. But when I then prepare to leave even with the points with me the home signal at the platform stays down and the drivers aid says there is NO SIGNAL.

All the extra boating activity makes the modern commercial route look bald in this area. I have also deleted the Hovercraft from the beach in World editor, which does not effect the commercial route, and you can then see the chaps on the beach next to Bazza's great coaster.

If some of the members who successfully get scenario's to work, upload them this will be great.

Still I am enjoying visiting various places on the route.

If this route can be made to fully function in RW it has got to be near the top of the list of the most wanted.

Cheers

Mike

Hi All
We are looking into the RW fault regarding the F2 key, and we think its time the route was brought into the RW family, so to speak.
At the moment i cant get the route to work in RW, or the IOW adon from RSDL, all i get is a black void with bits & pieces of scenery, i'm now downloading the IOW adon, RW version from steam to see if that sorts the problem.
As for the signals on the route, it is a work in progress,
The route is a long way from compleation, and i have no dout, there will be problems to sort out.

The problems are only minor ( not in everybodies taste) but it was the original release of this route ( for RS?RW), I think back in September that made me decide on RS/RW again - and havn`t looked back -- though some routes have problems, I am not a route builder and will give my observations as to problems found
.
The route is a long way from compleation, and i have no dout, there will be problems to sort out.
.
So keep on going - hope to enjoy the IOW as it were when I were a lad -- too many years ago to think of - but did manage an 02 ( around 1960) from Pier Head to Espalnade on a school trip -- then the (road) coaches took over!!!!

I created another free roam scenario and drove from Ryde St. Johns road to Ventor saving along the way with no error so it does point to the supplied free roam as being the problem re this. Why is a different question though which may or may not need investigation. The other option may be to recreate a fresh one.

Hi All
I have IOW Adon & iow Network up and running on RW now, Now we shall see whats going on,
The idea of a new Free roam Scenario looks promising John,
Just an idea, for the free roam , i will place a train at Ryde St Johns Road Station, be it Passenger or Fieght, i,e. at Brading For Benbridge / at Benbridge to return to Brading / at Sandown for Ventnor West / at Ventnor West to Newport/ at Newport for Freshwater/ at Freshwater to Newport at Newport to Cowes/ at Cowes to return to Ryde Pierhead. that way you can do the hole nerwork with a veriety of trains
There will be a Railworks version of the route, As soon as its fit.
Any ideas are wecome ( Not Silly, we have enough of them ourselves ) .
Your Comments, and help, is really appreciated, by Me and the Team,

Kindest Regards
Ian & the Team

Hi, While my suggestion re the free roam might help, there still does seem to be a issue somewhere with saves, at least with me. What I mean by that is I do seem to have a problem loading a free roam save sometimes ( I haven't tried a standard scenario as yet ) where on loading the save I get a not a "serialized file error at line 113". So when you create the new one make sure you try saving and loading from different locations on the route.

John

Hi John
David AKA Longbow has made a new free roam and has tried saveing along the run to Ventnor with no crashes, so i think You & David has hit on the error in the route,
though if you use RWtools, in scenario editer, it showes allot of redundant consists, by that mean empty, just maybe the route has so many consist alloted to it within the game, that its reached the end consist saves, i need to remove all the empty ones to clear.

Regards
Ian

HI Ian,

I trust you are sorted out now with your getting IOW into RW problems that we discussed via PM.
David AKA Longbow has made a new free roam and has tried saveing along the run to Ventnor with no crashes, so i think You & David has hit on the error in the route,
I, like John and David, created a new Scenario (a simple Standard Scenario with just a 'Player' Loco and a couple of Coaches running between Cowes and Newport with no Static Rolling Stock installed) and thought I'd cracked the F2 'Save' problem as it saved with no error message. Unfortunately when trying to re-load the Scenario to the Sim using 'Continue', I experience the "serialized file error at line 113" error message like John and cannot continue the Scenario after making a Save. :(
Also, when then trying to use 'Edit' on this Scenario I receive the "Something bad has occurred" error message and cannot enter into Edit mode to try and change things. :-?

Just thought you might be interested.

I too have created a new free roam scenario using the GWR railcar, and drove to Ventnor Town, where I saved. That worked, but I can't reload the save - this is the error:

I suspect there is a problem with one of the assets used, but finding which one might be difficult. Would loading with Logmate enabled help?

It may or may not indicate what the cause, so I would give it a go and see. I had the same experience at Ventor as well but with a different loco and train. It would save ok but the save wouldn't load. I had the same problem when I tried it at Newport station.
