Help needed

Post by Austcoop »

Hi all.

I had a strange thing happen to me today whilst working on one of my routes. Whilst laying down some scenery, i noticed that the track, buildings and train icons had suddenly greyed out. I saved the work and exited to the main menu. When i tried to reload, the only option available was 'Play', the 'Edit' and 'continue' icons also being greyed out. It seems like Railworks has assumed i've finished the route and am now ready to just play it. Any ideas? Can i recover it and carry on working, or will i have to start again from scratch? I didn't press anything at all. It just happened as i was working.

Any help would be gratefully received,

James

That might not have been the best idea ever, to be honest. If something really bizarre or unwanted happens the best policy is to close the RW window with the Microsoft red cross. You'll then get a prompt asking if you want to save, and you don't! At least this way you'll only lose 10 minutes/1 hour rather than 10 weeks' work!

Anyway, although I've not heard of this happening before I am sure that the situation is recoverable without having to start all over again. I'm just not entirely sure how at the moment.

Are you able to play the route and then gain access to the editing tools via the Globe icon? This may be a starting point to try...

Cheers

Railworks certainly shouldn't just "assume", never has with me in 1000+ building hours. Is it possible that the route has just locked? Can you access "free play" to enter the route editor?

I think you've clicked the route lock. I did it last week whilst flinging sheep around. (if you do it quick enough they place randomly as aopposed to having to manually rotate each member of the flock  )

NB.... No real sheep were harmed during the creation of my SWW route.

If it was the New Zealand version of sheep fascination I would say it's a mating ritual, but I don't know about the Welsh version of sheep fascination. :D

Hi all,

Thanks for your help everyone. I had indeed managed to click the route lock icon. I had a painful few hours worrying that i had lost all my work, but it is now back on track. Excuse the pun. :D

If you were that worried about losing your work it is definitely time for you to worry about your backup strategy - how do you backup your work, and how often do you do it?
