Ikesmith's 4F

I'd just like to say welcome and a big thank you to ikesmith (Mike Round) for joining the very thin ranks of freeware RW loco creators with his 4F, uploaded today. By the looks of the screenshot he already has a Schools under his wing.

Mike, in your upload notes you were rather apologetic for its quality. You don't need to be. It's far better than most of us can do, and a glance at the early work of some of our other loco builders shows how quickly they have improved!

PS the loco is missing its softshadow texture; it's looking for a texture from a J15 model folder.

totally agree. Steam locos aren't my cup of tea, but this model looks pretty good, and the more modelers we have the better. Well done, Mike, I will happily download your great work :D

Not a bad little model gonna have a little play around with the textures abit later looks like the unwrapping isnt the best ever :D But i cant complain i cant even get a model in game.

Ive had 2 probs 1 being the BR Logo doesnt show and 2 there is the missing textures thing under the main loco i assume for the soft shade.

Great to see a new modeller :)

I am having a problem with the download, though, as all I get is an empty zip file. It also downloads in a fraction of a second.

Since other people are getting the file ok, I'm not sure why I should be having a problem.

Cheers,

Kevin

I have a similar issue - I noticed the file I downloaded ended '.rpk.zip' and appeared empty - renamed to .rpk but am at work so haven't tried installing yet, however renamed the .rpk to .zip to have a look inside and again it appeared empty. Filesize is 2.05MB though!

Great news to see a new loco modeller though, well done! (Did I see mention of a J15 :)?!)

Hi Mike [ikesmith (mike round)],

Thanks for sharing your excellent efforts with the Community, very much appreciated. A very nice Loco and love the animated inside valve gear (watch out Kev, someone's after your Crown  ).

I too have a few problems, I also have the missing 4F loco shadow missing. Hope the screen shots helps.

Mike's 4F in charge of the "Birmingham - Worcester", on the 'Bristol Sheffield V5' Route by jetgriff (J Griffiths). (I wonder whether there will be another 'Update' for this Challenging Route?).

My download today (at 09 ‎February ‎2010, ‏‎11:15:00) using Winrar appeared as .zip file (2.05 MB (2,151,212 bytes)) and not as a .rpk file. I unzipped it and 'manually' installed the 'ike' folder into my 'Assets' folder, obviously activating ike with the Objects Filter.

When first placed in a Scenario there were no BR emblems on the Tender sides and when the Sim was 'run' I had error message saying "Carmine Crimson" coach was missing. So added a Carmine Crimson BG Coach to the the Consist and ran the Sim, hey, loaded and ran with no errors and the Tender emblems had appeared. :-?

So swopped the BG for a SK Carmine Crimson coach and the Tender emblems disappeared again, but if I re-add a BG coach the emblem returns. So the emblem only shows if a BG coach is added anywhere in the Scenario (it doesn't have to be coupled to the 4F), just as long it is somewhere in the Scenario.

I'm sure Mike will be able to rectify this and by no means do I wish to spoil the release of this the first (of hopefully many) of his releases, I just want to give as much information of my findings, so they may be hopefully swiftly addressed.

Thanks again Mike and very well done mate.

EDIT: As can be seen from Geoff's Post below, it may be that I am the only one getting the BG coach problem.

I have decided to leave my comments (in italics), just in case someone else does experience it. If everybody else is OK, I will delete it later today.

Hi

Yes the loco installs with no problem but the shadow texture is missing.

None of the other problems you describe however Rob.

Hi Rob

I installed it into RW with the usual installer as a .rpk file and then tried it out in Heatbeat Moor. There is very little non-default in that route so I do not think those carriages have been seen.

One thing I did do though, was I forget to select save the download so when I came to look for the file I could not find it. I then downloaded the file again and saved it this time and installed as usual. The first download could not have installed by itself could it?

Sorted the issue I had - Windows was blocking the file so right clicked it, Properties, Unblock.

Still showed an empty zip file but once extracted an assets folder appeared. Looking forward to trying it out this evening and thanks very much again!

Hi,

Just a quick suggestion, if you want the 4F to have the RW 'Chuffing' smoke effect, instead of the continuous smoke from the chimney, don't forget you can change it using RWTools.

For those who are not sure what to do, here's how to do it :

Open RWTools - click Edit Assets - select the 4f folder (under ike\addon\RailVehicles\Steam\4f in the LH Table). Click "Add to List" box (answer Yes to full details of.bin files) and two lines of enteries will appear in the bottom Table. LMB click on the Engine.bin line (it will highlight Blue).

Now LMB click on the "Display Child Entries" box and highlight "funnel" in the top right hand box and then LMB click on the "Correct Selected Smoke Stack" box.

That's it all done, it sounds a lot harder to do than it actually is. (Thanks Mr Simpson  )

Hope that is of help to someone, it's much better with the 'Chuffing' smoke effect IMO.

I tried renaming the .zip extension to .rwp, but that gave an error message when trying to install it. Then tried changing the .zip suffix to .rar and could then open the file in winrar. Was then able to install the loco manually into the asset folder.

A very nice little loco, and apart from the missing undershadow texture, everything works fine. :)

Cheers,

kevin

Hello Mike,

Thank you for springing that one on us all, a very fine piece of freeware indeed!.
I'd just like to say that I also have the nice shiny blue stripes beneath the loco, and no tender emblems.

Aside from that, a nice, commendable effort, to be applauded!

Very Best Wishes,
Bob.

4F? Where is it to download? It's not on UK Trainsim. Has it been withdrawn perhaps?
