Intel Core i7 2600K 3.40GHz @ 4.60GHz,
Nvidia GeForce GTX 580 3072MB

OK I checked that out and switched off Indexing Service as I couldn't see it in Game Booster.

Still the same problem exists.

Hmm... Do you have any real-time spyware/malware tools running? Windows Defender, Spybot S&D, etc.?

Not that I can find but I am using 30 to 34% of Memory according to Game Booster.

Got my memory usage down from 34 to 24% but still no improvement. Has to be a driver or programming issue?

Hi, I would imagine that game booster is itself using some resources - try disabling it to see if you get better results!

Thanks for all the comments on this subject, very interesting.
I have tried all sorts of things and still the same, I am sure it is an issue with RW but then again some people don't see it so who knows?
Like others have said it spoils the enjoyment of the simulator, I enjoy using it but until it is smooth running I won't enjoy it 100%.

I will be a little sarcastic. Some people don't see difference between 60Hz and 100Hz refrash rate of CRT monitors.

I only got involved with Game Booster due to poor performance on Railworks! Never had an issue with any other game. I built my own rig for gaming (everything from FSX to Crysis) and Railworks is my first problem programme.

Just to input my penny's worth. I've just bought a new rig - dual ati 5870's in crossfirex, i7 960, 12 gigs memory, raid 0 disks, Windows 7 64bit etc., so I'd expect to be able to run pretty much anything with full settings. I loaded up a copy of Railworks expecting a graphical treat but I have to say I'm disappointed - I get the "rubber band" effect as others have described and the simulation is ruined. Strangely, if I use the "free roam" view from key 8 I can fly around the scenery smoothly, but attach myself to a moving train with key 2 and the scenery stutters. Other gaming software runs very well, as expected, so I have to think there is something up with Railworks. Ah well, at least MSTS runs at a steady 60 fps...

This has been said many times before, but defragmenting the drive where the RailWorks program is located often improves stuttering and sometimes virtually eliminates for a while so before trying any complicated settings, defrag first and see if that helps.

Defragmenting the drive does not work for me and there is still stutter there. I usually defrag at least every other day sometimes more and it does not help

Rubber banding effect?
No,no, it's a sudden drop in frame rate, that's all, but very annoying.
The problem of stutter or frame rate drops was intensively dealt by MSTS 2 developer stonelance (Steve Heijster ) as a well known problem of MSFS X graphics engine. He reported a good progress in making this graphics engine to be more efficient.
I've Intel i7 940 CPU with Geforce GTX 280 graphic card under Windows XP Pro, the stutter still exists and there are sudden drops down to 20 FPS.
With all my respect to RDSL or Kuju developers, I afraid that this issue is beyond their capability to make RailWork more efficient.
