I'll be happy for any kind of illumination to be implemented, not only realistic.RailX wrote:hi

Unfortunately, this trailer is misleading big time.nelson wrote:Here's what can be achieved with good lighting effects:

I think Derek is trying to point out that it takes a lot more work to be able to do that in a game where the location of objects is not up to the programmers, but up to the users.nelson wrote:No, you can't build your own route, etc, etc, never suggested you could. and I wasn't knocking RW, I love it now, with all this new stock and routes we have. I was just trying to show people what is possible with lighting in a game.

That also brings a question of how realistic you want to be though. Do you really need to be able to see track signage or should you know it from route knowledge as per real life? There was a discussion last year regarding this concerning one of my routes which turned out that it was the norm that much of the track signage was missing/stolen meaning that drivers had to rely purely on their knowledge of the route.thompson9100 wrote:From what I've read on this thread, it sounds to me like the lights in RW are working very much as they did in MSTS, a bug or design fault I am more than happy to put up with (especially if I know there is something being done to fix it).
For me, this is the biggest problem with RW, especially as I like driving at night, or dusk, etc, when you just can't see the track side signage adequately, and I am trying to drive without track monitor for realism.
I do wonder how much longer it will take, considerring how long RW (and RS before it) has been available as a commercial product. I do appreciate the work that has been put in, but I'd much prefer to have working lights than a dozen steam engines (as I'm more of a diesel man myself - though I'm getting into steam on RW!!!! - so thanks for that).
