It's good to see people still getting involved! Cheers! There seems to be a big must have for modern locomotives! :)

Well if anyone is interested, I've started a blog on my site for the class 24! Also a thread on the Rw locomotives section of the forum! http://Www.meshtools.co.uk

Cheers,
Mike!

Classic Diesels! Finally! I've been waiting far too long for those lesser known BR diesels like the Class 17's and 33's.

Ghostcav,

Hang your head in shame sir! Those things are awful.

Regarding 170 - 180, The bodies are very different so I wouldn't expect to see that specifically. The 170 is more a 168, that gives an idea to what other thing's i'm working on at present.

Also, 90 wise it's still being worked on, some PC difficulties have meant it's on the pile with everything else on my bench - the list does get longer and longer!

Ooh, Class 24. Not exactly what I wanted but it will be a great addition to our pile of jewels!

Class 24 is good. Shouldn't be too hard to upgrade to a 25 or use the physics for a 26.

It is quite fascinating to see the differences in "wish lists" coming out, the youngsters (presumably) who want the latest plastic trains while those of us who were about in the late 70's/early 80's long for classic traction and heritage DMU's/DEMU's (with the exception of Mike who must be really ancient, wanting all that steam). Actually on the subject of steam, all this high powered stuff is all well and good but it would be nice to also see more down to earth locos - some BR Standard tanks perhaps, rather than these huge Pacifics and 4-6-0's that walk away with everything.

And when discussing what we old codgers regard as "modern" it is sobering to reflect that DMU's like the Class 150's (23 years) and Class 158's (21 years) are almost as old as the heritage units were when they replaced them...

Looking forward to this - I have very hazy memories of them north of Inverness along with the 26's in the seventies. Walking to Wick station in the dark mornings and hearing the dinka-dink of a Sulzer Type 2 idling - ah thems were the days :)

Makes me think too - I had the privilege to visit the Brush works at Loughborough in June '89, and the paint had barely dried on 60001...

Hmmm, the 442's are 23 years old this year too so they, although classed as "Plastic Piggies" are far from being modern, especially when you consider that the traction motors are from the old REP's :o

I'm patiently waiting for some Heritage Units to appear, so i can edit and finally play all those scenarios that require 158's or 166's :D

I'll probably get shot for saying this (since its modern!) but a Class 395 - Javelin or perhaps the Class 375/377/379s (since they are all the same) ?

{reaches for service revolver...}

But seriously, cool looking unit in the form of the 395 but it has the same challenge as the 390, i.e. where to run it... In fact, unless someone models HS1 (which, in itself would be quite cool for a short while) then, prototypically, you're more than a bit limited. Granted, somewhere to unleash their potential hasn't stopped the RSC Pendo selling (presumably) like hot cakes :-?

But for the latter point, consider also that Dicky Branson's red rockets are quite high profile, too -- most people (not just enthusiasts) know what they are and recognise them and the brand... Could the same be said of the Javelins? Not yet, anyway. A 370 would be great, too whilst we're at it, but with even greater restrictions (as I remember, personally, from MSTS days) in so far as Eurostar are very much opposed to their image being used without their permission...

Mined ewe, those blokes that did the Glasgow Airport Rail Link (GARL) might consider it as their next project, maybe...? I reckon it'd have greater appeal and sell more... :roll:

The Electrostar, in terms of a stand-alone product, would likely have a slightly greater commercial appeal (the desire to produce...) because, as you rightly say, it's pretty much 3 models in one, but then it's also quite restricted in scope for use, i.e. Southern metals and 99% 3rd rail at that :-?

I know there are at least three regular posters on here that would like to see a Southern route and at least one route that was in development although that seems to be more of a personal, "pet" project.

Hmm... my latent prejudice is showing :D From my youth, I was always rather puzzled by my colleagues that used to go and spot Southern Region stuff; I couldn't see the point in making the effort to drag myself "sarf of the the river" to go watch a bunch of electrified carriages whining up and down when I could stay at home (adjacent to the London end of the WCML)and watch a bunch of different electrified carriages whining up and down... :lol: ) AND the Southern had only one class of diesel, which had a stupid nickname (yes, I know this isn't true either -- okay, the nickname bit is, heh -- but I'm coming at it from the perspective of a spotty 13 year old with a satchel and a flask...). {sigh}

I've digressed enough. I'll return to my padded room, now.

Well Southerns 377 goes on the WCML upto Milton Keynes (and all of the 377/2s +375/6s are both 3rd Rail and Overhead) and the 379s will be only running on Overhead when they replace the stansted express trains (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_Rail_Class_379)
