Haha, my only connection to Aylesbury is that my Dad used to go there sometimes and I crashed my first motorcycle into a roundabout there that I swear wasn't there earlier the same day...ihavenonamenoreallyidont wrote: Loved looking at all the pictures you posted, Wikkus! I grew up in Aylesbury
Now that's pretty cool, if you ask me...so used to watch the Class 25s and 31s trundling up and down at the bottom of our garden.
Ahh, the "cr*pliner"And the GLC waste train, hauled by a 45 at around nine every night.
...and the smell, too?Wow, the noise!
Yeah, it's a shame that it never got a cab and a spot of tidying, but I'd rather have what we got than nothing at all. There's still room for variation, mind -- they only modelled one variantI would definitely have suggested a 25 and a 31 but a semi-version of the 25 was released by DT
Pictures, or it isn't real, loland I knew the 31 was already being worked on.
Not a massive amount of difference and if truth be told, little enough so that if someone were to do a 117, it could be re-skinned to be a 115 and there'd be no "cardinal sin" committedAnyway, the real point of my post is the 115 DMU. They really were the trains of my early years, used to get on one occasionally to go to Marylebone and fondly remember slamming the doors as hard as humanly possible (well, for a ten year old!). Ah, good times! I'm not a massive train buff so am wondering if you know what the differences are between the 115 we both mentioned and the apparently more common 117?
Actual differences were many, albeit minor. The 117s were built by Pressed Steel and were initially allocated to the WR but wound up almost everywhere and the 115s were built by BR Derby and spent most all their lives pootling in and out of Marylebone on the former GCR as you know.
The 117s were 3-car units, the 115s were 4-car. The 117s had British United Traction (BUT) (Leyland) 150HP power units (one in each driving trailer), the 115s had 230HP BUT (Leyland Albion) units (similarly, one per "end"). Both were limited to 70mph. Seating arrangements were slightly different between the two, but I couldn't tell you specifics.
Hope that helps,
Rik.
