I have been browsing the forum to an answer to this but am still confused.
Recently my internet modem failed when I turned on my PC and left me offline for a few days.
I found that whatever I did, I could not get into Railworks without an internet connection as it would not work without connecting to steam, to which I repeatedly tried to log me in and failed.
I found out that there is a "work offline" option in the steam file menu, but that didn't help as without an internet connection I couldn't get that far!!
Is it therefore true that I cannot use RailWorks on a stand alone?

Re: Running RailWorks offline
Steam client has it's quirks. In order to play offline, you first need to be able to connect with Steam online to select the Play Offline option. Silly

However, there is an apparent workarounds I found searching around at some other forums (try any of the following at your own risk though, but I can't see it hurting anything.)
* One possible way: "Apparently, pressing the cancel button while Steam is loading will make it bring up the "Do you want to run in offline mode" dialog - another way of doing this is to block it using your firewall."
* Another suggestion to try if that doesn't work: "Unplug your ethernet cable/turn off wireless when Steam is starting up."
