A question about payware

Hello all,
As I'd intimated in an earlier thread somewhere, I've now gone and got the Valenta sound pack, and what a pack it is. After following the installer, I noted that the sounds have automatically updated, at least for the BR blue one. Does this pack just overwrite the default sounds? I'd like to keep the built in sounds for the Arriva XC HST and the FGW dynamic lines HST, so how could I set about doing this?
Thanks in advance for any help received, I can't believe I'm considering parting with more cash for the MTU sounds - rubbish as they sound in real life, it would make all my HSTs authentic.

Ye I also have the Valenta and am thinking on spending on the MTU. Just want to know how to make the real life Valentas sound like a Valenta, and MTUs like an MTU

. Any help would be great cheers

If I recall correctly (and I cannot get to my gaming PC at the mo...), when one installs one of the great Armstrong Powerhouse packs, they do indeed, by default, overwrite all the sounds for that class type, e.g. in the OP's example, everything will indeed get Valenta sounds.
However, also from memory, during the installation process (or it may be in a README) there's mention of what you need to do if you wish to be more selective in your application of replacement sounds. In short, it means doing some basic edits of files to ensure that the strings which call the sounds point to the appropriate ones.
Excuse me if that previous sentence sounds overly complicated, it's really not! Especially so if you use Mike Simpson's excellent RW Tools.
What's more, once you've changed the files, you can make a copy of them so that in the event of a major update via Steam, they can be quickly replaced without the need to re-edit them.
Hope this makes sense and is of help,
Rgds, Rik.

As per my other reply, Mark -- Richard's sounds are excellent and are bang on; screamy Valentas and bassy, throbby, MTUs
I always liked the Valenta HSTs even whilst they were displacing the beloved Deltics; they always sounded like they were winding-up to critical mass and would cause us to grit our teeth and cower involuntarily in anticipation of an enormous bang and to be showered with shrapnel
I didn't think much of the MTUs when they started to appear; they just sound like great genny diesels like we have here on site -- no surprise, really when you look at their lineage

However, there's an innate sense of power imparted by the intense throb of the MTU as I was reminded when an "East Coast Rail" unit powered through Hatfield whilst I was awaiting a KX-bound 317 on Monday last
Rik.

Further to my question about this HST sound pack :
I have duplicated the standard BR Blue HST folder, and deleted the mk3 carraiges that will remain unchanged. I've then edited both the class43_ic.bin and class43_ic_static.bin files to give the vehicle a unique name, change the dircetories mentioned in the file to point to the new folder (BR_IC125_Valenta) and changed the audio to point to the new folder (Class 43 Valenta) and what I have so far is a few issues, including no sounds for the Class 43 BR Blue Valenta, when I choose it in the scenario editor it faces the opposite way to the Class 43 BR Blue, the exhaust smoke attachment has moved to the cab and the driver is now sat on the roof!!! Anyone got any ideas as to what I have either done wrong, or missed out at all?
