Hi Vern

The Route Building Challenge was a great way to get a more accurate idea of exactly how long it takes to build a route. Using just default assets I would say that I spent about 70 hours in total to finish the very modest Denby to Boxford route with much of the final time spent on testing signals and creating one scenario. I have learned many things from this Challenge, one of which is that scenario writing can take a very long time and this is a craft that should not be underestimated in importance both in time and skill.

The Challenge route is about 5 miles from usable end to end but with absolutely no bespoke assets. In contrast, The Spa Valley Railway probably took about 500 hours when you take into account the research trips, modelling about 170 bespoke assets, thorough testing, etc, and that was only about 6 miles long.

I am therefore looking for about £10,000 K+ :D

This does link to the thread topic though, in that RS.com have to be very careful about updates and improvements to any aspect of the program otherwise there is the danger that assets and routes already created may cease to work. It is vitally important, therefore, that all future updates are thoroughly tested before release and I for one much prefer fewer updates, but when they do come, they should be of high quality.

£10k would certainly pay off one or two bills and a nice dent in my o/s mortgage too!

Of course my comment about £3k was tongue in cheek, this is firmly a freeware/community project and I would never dream of charging for it. (Though wrestling this morning with the complex relationship of road/river and bridges at what at this stage might vaguely resemble Goathland, getting paid seemed a very nice idea!).

However quite agree that any commercial group whether RS.com or a third party undertaking a route project on their behalf would need to think about the financial returns very carefully and yes, we most emphatically do not want a repeat of the route nuking update bug.

If you had been paid for everything you have already done Vern, I am sure that by now you would be sunning yourself on your own island in some tropical climes and taking trips around the South Sea Islands in your super yacht.

Back to the subject of the post...

Derek,
Two weeks and a half and no update to the Section 0 Status Updates and Implementation of new features.
Am I the only one to see this?
Christmas is coming soon and Holidays too for everyone.

Could we please! please! please! have this website updated?

With the recent release of 2 of the 3 upcoming events, another one is coming.

It is good for those who ask I want this, I want that but for those who are still waiting some, I am saying some implements of the core program needed to go further in the development of assets, what is happening?

One thing I am wondering: What is happening to the @mails sent to support@railsimulator.com with no Thank you for contacting RailSimulator.com?

Yesterday and this morning, I have sent the same @mail 3 times about Fix for 3Drails: Point Blades or Switch Points of Junctions.
No Thank you for contacting RailSimulator.com for any of those 3.
Are-you receiving them or are they thrown to basket by your system ?

Sorry to be a bit upset.

Thanks,
Robert

I have never once emailed support for any game/application about a bug and have got a personal response back. Usually form letter reply. That's all I really expect, and that's all anyone really should expect. Yes, even sometimes you get nothing. If you get a unsent error message from your email server. Then it was never received.

If they spent time replying personally to every bug, suggestion, and "fix" emailed to them nothing would get fixed, released or worked on. If you got a form letter back (or no error reply), then it was received in their inbox and I'm sure will be read.

As long as you got the Auto Reply, then as far as we the consumers are concerned the bug report(s) are in the hands of the developers and whatever they wish to do with them is totally up to them.

Personal replies are nice and all that, but if a bug is tricky to reproduce and / or fix is needed to be developed, then I'd rather the devs spent their time fixing rather than making a personal reply to every single step that they've made towards bug resolution.

I'd hope that the German product release will be bringing us lots of updates, and a return to "normal" for the team bringing the "0 Status" back into focus again.. :)

After one month any word on this ?
I check on a regular basis the section 0 but it's still on oct 26 2009.
Santa is gone 20 days ago but I didn't see any upgrade/fix on the core program under my tree.
Sorry to look a bit impatient but, I heard about exciting news coming on this month (not speaking about DLCs)

Hi,

The new scenario tools currently in dev are not tied to the German release.
It will not be in the Jan update but hoping it will be in the feb one.
All subject to change however, depending on what the future throws at us.

best regards

Derek

Somebody from the highs is listening ...

It's a pure coincidence or "somebody" read this posts ?

I bouncedi in on Fri Jan 15, 2010 7:53 am

and wiki sect 0 bottom page now says: Created by: system. Last Modification: Friday 15 of January, 2010 08:52:30 UTC by adam.

About the "Botton T crash" I strongly hope that is gone on the fixed one heaven, not in the rejected bin

I hope this means an update is imminent, as certainly lots of the issues that have been removed were previously down as confirmed and with a fix pending.

Early this morning, I'm sure that "T key crash" was still with the red light on. (just double checked with google cache)
This is why I'm concerned that this issue could have been rejected or removed by mistake.
