What processor do you have?
Hi what processor do you have and how many cores does RW use? I have a E8400 core 2 duo 3ghz processor but only uses one of the two cores. RW runs reasonably well around 60fps but it does drop to 21 quite regularly. Looking at Cpu usage it seems one core is running flat out at 50 and the other at 3. I have emailed RS.com two weeks ago but have not had a reply. Can you kind chaps please list what processor you have how many cores it uses and how well RW runs. I have a Nvida GTX 275

Re: What processor do you have?
intel E6600 2.4GHz 8GB ddr2 ram Vista 64bit, two cores being used when running RW approx 50% or higher vs 20-40 %
Re: What processor do you have?
Intel Q6600 OC'd a little to 2.7GHz / 4GB RAM / Windows 7 Ultimate; all 4 cores used, none nearing 100% usage though...
Is the '60FPS' because you've set v-sync to 'on' ?
Does it drop when the hd is being accessed as it's loading another scenery 'tile' ? If so, there's probably very little you can do about it...

Re: What processor do you have?
You have been told in the the other thread that RW will only use 1 core. Any activity in the other cores is incidental and due to other running tasks or services. You really need to start listening to what you are being told about the architecture and performance.
I have an Intel Core 2 Duo E6850 running at 3GHz with 4GB memory on Windows XP SP3 32 bit : usually get 25 - 45 FPS
By the way - from the first post - flat out is 100% usage on all cores. If a core is 50% then it still has 50% capacity.

Re: What processor do you have?
And as I said in the other thread John, the left core is sky high and the right core is stuck on the bottom. With MSTS both left and right run exactly the same. The Tazman posted a screengrab of the 2 cores running with MSTS. The reason I started this thread was to find a processor which uses both cores in RW and it seems there are some, I dont want to purchase another processor and have the same problem.

Re: What processor do you have?
You are going a very expensive way to get higher framerates for Rail Works.
Also MSTS was out before dualcore processors were out so it wouldn't be optimised. As you are getting very good frame rates to begin with and it might be limited to 60fps? drops will happen on it though, as it does for my system, so their is no need to worry about it.

Re: What processor do you have?
I have recently fiddled with the nvidia control panel and set certain graphic set ups for RW and this resulted ina drop of fps more than an increase, so I set all these settings to application controlled and now ingeneral my fps jumps upto 60 max I have seen averages around 35-50 and drops to about 21 when new scenery tiles load, this will be because there is a lot iof data to load at once all the terrain data, textures then all the individual assets such as trees etc.. also.
I have a Intel Q6600 quad core overclocked to 3.2GHz not sure on core usage, I am too busy driving to notice

Re: What processor do you have?
Surely if RW is programmed to run on one core (which is what would seem apparent), then you're just throwing money into the wind by buying more powerful processors in an attempt to achieve something that's under the software's control?dean1986 wrote:And as I said in the other thread John, the left core is sky high and the right core is stuck on the bottom. As for the processor, I'm running an Intel core 2 quad q8400 2.7ghz
