How to do speedsigns

The intricacies, or simplicities of 3D modelling are worth understanding. Alongside other forums like Building Rolling Stock, Scenic Item Creation and the other tool specific forums here's another place to ask questions that just don't quite fit the other forums.

Re: How to do speedsigns

Please be precise.
If you mean that I must a letter or number bring closer to the object(sign), I think that it does not matter..

I created a one new test.
On the left side is a primary single digit number, on the right is a primary two-digit number.
In first picture when I far away I see single and two-digit number.
The second picture (below) is from closer distance, I don't see a two-digit, only I see a single digit number.

And also you can see there is very distant (space) between numbers and sign, and it is same.
According to your theory, the single number should be disappear, but is not, it is here too.

I try to tell you that single digit number always stays the same, and how he is good and others not?
Maybe now you find mistake :)

I found a bug.

The mistake is because my pivots is to far away from the objects.
With the help of jaapsloot I solved my problem and now the object is doing well :D
Now I can doing on the lods and texturing and the nearing completion.

Ok I am almost done, now I must create a LOD.

My structure is folowing:
Image

Now, if I crate 3 lod-s,
1_0300_Head
2_0800_Head
3_1000_Head
Do I must create Lods for all primary and secondary numbers, or only for Head?
And it is lods 300,800 and 1000 good? or I must start with 50?

Why do you want LODs?

There is very little to be left away so why bother?

I can't, now is visibility to 300m, behind that I can't see the model, I must create at least until to 800 or 1000m.

Hmm yes, but why everyone have 3 lods, num 1_xxxx_x, 2_xxxx_x and 3_xxxx_x?
I saw that it says on the RW wiki page ..
You think that is not important or?

In this case, no

LODs are useful when making more complicated objects, like houses
On LOD1 everything is visible
On LOD2, the roof is simplified & the doorhandle is missing
On LOD3, the house is totally simplified

Since you don't have any details to leave out, they aren't really needed

Aha, I understand, on small objects it is not important.

Ok I will have I LOD: 1_0800_Head.
What distance is for the numbers? :)
1_0300_primarydigits_1
300, 400 ?

Hi, here again, one problem (and I hope last).
When I removed from the object 55 m, white numbers on a black sign are disappearing..
The pivots is ok, I think that is mistake in numbers or shaders or something, because when I use number from the RW, then I see normal number with long distance, and if I use my number what I create, then I dont see long distance.
I would have used the number of RW but I have to rearrange :)
So if anyone knows where the error?

I found the mistake.
Filter mode must be "linear" (not MipLinear).
Image

I'm amazed that no one knew that :)
Might be some other options, but I am sure that it is not MipLinear.

Now is good.

Hi, that is "Milepost Blueprint", in this case that is my Grade Sign.

First, how it works, double click on the model, and you will see space box for 4-digit numbers (picture two),
first 3 numbers are on the top (860), that is distance, in meters, and 4. number (and possible 5.) are down,
they show a grade in permillage, and must be RED color.

So, how to I can have colored numbers in bottom, ie. all numbers after third muse be in RED color.
But, I must have black and red numbers separate, but in picture 3. you see that are all numbers in the one group.
So, I can't separate..
Who have idea how to I colored this number?

In real.........
