Could anyone make a V shaped ditch for us?

Everyone should have a go at this, creating a bit of basic scenery is really quite easy and certainly within the grasp of anyone - find some tutorials, ask questions, and keep it simple to start with (a simple box!) and get that buzz when it shows up in the sim as your very own object! Then upload it to UKTS and share it with others!

Could anyone make a V shaped ditch for us?

Post by rivimey »

Folks,

Cunningn and I would like to have a couple of sizes of ditch loft, but neither of us feel up to the task of making one. I was just hoping that maybe some kind soul would help out.

These ditches are found all over the place round here and are frequently fairly dry - occasionally there is a water in the bottom e.g. if its raining, but it's most often just damp.

The idea is for a ditch, probably 4-8 feet deep and 6-12 feet across, with the following loft profile:

Code: Select all

__ __
  \/
so as to make a deep ditch with grass/whatever either side. A version with one side missing may also be helpful:

Code: Select all

__
  \/
The point of the side extensions is so that the underlying terrain can be brought back up to level again, so each side needs to be 12ish feet wide I'd guess.

To push the boat out, the last profile would be:

Code: Select all

__ __
  \__/
so as to make a ditch with water... again, 12-14' wide, 6' deep to water level. We do have some possible routes for this already, so it's not as urgent.

Any takers? :-) :-)

I also need ditches for my route so they are on my to do list. i will see what i can do but in the meantime have you thought of using say a sunken river or water tile and a couple of embankment / cutting lofts ? That was how I was going to do it until I had the time and inclination to make my own. If you make one side and then use the offset tool you should get a second side that follows the first.

Just a thought...

Thanks for the thoughts... yes, there are other ways, but there are also a lot of ditches... :-)

Best wishes,

2nd item has ditches on. They have granted permission for me to use and package content with TPR so you might be lucky too :D

Jim,

Those ditches and embankments would make a nice addition to the freeware packs.

Just saying... :)

Good news. I have been given permission to include some content from the excellent http://www.RailWorks.cz web site in the freeware packs. This means that the ditches can be included.

I think this is just what I need to get me updating the scenic asset packs (the rolling stock packs were recently updated).

A big thank you to the people at railworks.cz for their generous gift to the packs.

Ruth did you have a look at the ditches on the site and are they what you wanted?

Thanks Jim - some lovely work on the CZ site - well worth a visit. sadly these are all too large for our purposes. Good thought anyway.

Just seen these, and while I can't seem to get the ditches to install (it'll be me messing up somewhere), the embankment lofts are brilliant!! I have spent so much time in the past trying to get big embankments sorted out with a loft either side of the track and one down the middle to cover the gap, and then I see these - 15 mins and I've overtaken about 15 hours of loft placements if I think about how many times I put them down. Frustrating in a way, but great in another! Thanks for the pointer Jim!

edit - just found the bridges! Brilliant!!!
