It's what the driver sees, it's possibly more important than even how it looks on the outside - but it's the most difficult bit to build. Learn how to make your own cabs, or how to use the ones that have been produced, how to wire up the controls and much more!
I'm completely new to RailWorks, installed it for the first time this morning. Haven't been playing or modding train sims since MSTS almost 10 years ago now! Anyway, before long I'd downloaded the 37 (Can't be without those for long... ) and 08 extras. Yes, I also think it's a ripoff how much they're charging. Now, this lead me to my first issue that I'd like to resolve.
In the 08 cabview, the driver position is completely wrong. The driver is stood up and away from where he should be, and, as a result, you aren't able to see out of the forward facing windows correctly. I'd like to move the viewing position so that it's further to the left, to enable me to see out the forward facing windows correctly.
Yes, you can edit any locomotive's .bin file to alter the position of 'Child' entries. However this is not for the faint hearted. You can use the program Serz.exe which is included with RailWorks to convert the .bin file to an .xml file, edit the .xml file in Notepad, use serz.exe once more to convert it back to a .bin file and overwrite the original with it.
Alternatively, you can use my RW_Tools to do this much the same as just opening the file in a text editor.
On top of this, you will not gain much by editing the original Class 08 files, because as soon as Steam notices that the default files have been edited, it will 'correct' them back to their original condition, so you should only edit clones of the original files.
However, that being said, you can proceed as follows:-
1. Run RW_Tools and make a clone of your Default Class 08.bin renaming it to something like Class 08a.bin
2. Open the new file \Assets\RSDL\RailSimulator\RailVehicles\Diesel\Class08\Default\Engine\Class 08a.bin in RW_Tools
3. Search for Children
4. Then search for Drivers and you will find a line like <BlueprintID d:type="cDeltaString">RailVehicles\Diesel\Class08\drivers\08_Driver02.xml</BlueprintID>
5. Below this is a matrix with the bottom 4 lines ending with -0.8348, 1.4800, -3.2656, 1.0000
6. The first 3 of these are the x, y and z locations of the driver from the centre of gravity of the loco, so altering x will move the driver left or right and the y setting will move it up and down, whereas the z will move him forward/backwards.
Make sure you only make these changes on clone of the original, as it is easy to get things wrong.

I'm not arguing (just explaining why I'm right).
Mike, I've just installed RW_Tools, I'm not entirely sure how to make a clone as you've mentioned, so I've just created a copy of the file named as you suggested.
When I try to open this with RW_Tools, or indeed the original file, I get a Run-time error 75, Path/file name cannot be accessed or is invalid.
I appreciate the response, even after 2 years . I similarly edited my camera positions, but continuously came up against issues with camera positions causing glitches when swivelling in both the seat backs (37, 47 etc), and the window glass (08, various steam engines etc). Obviously the reason why the default camera position in the 08 does not allow you to see down the nose.
Hi, Yes I did, and on certain models the second camera position can effect the settings of the first camera position.
Also going too close to the side window can throw you outside the cab.
I also found that ajusting the "tilt" down view can be very picky resulting in a "track view" vertically straight down !
Its a fiddly process, but in my case makes a major difference as to how I drive.
I now drive in expert mode all the time as I can see the controls
I also missed the track only view from MSTS so wanted that back (zooming-in ahead just does not work for me.
