Novices guide required please AI pickup

All I wish to do within a scenario, is have an AI engine move from one siding to another and couple up to some trucks.
I can do most everything else using the scenario tools but am busting a gut to achieve this!
A search has turned up very little on the subject.
Can I have a blow by blow on this one as I'm a slow learner!
Ta ever so muchly for any forthcoming help on this.
Fred

It's a tricky one actually - I haven't figured out myself the precise circumstances where it works or not. I have managed to make it work sometimes, but definitely not always.

When I do figure it out, or when it becomes more robust, I do plan to add a tutorial about it to the FAQ section.

A1 pickup works perfect if your using timetabled scenarios, just make sure you know and configure for the correct end of the locomotive to buffer upto stock. However we have the silly problem of the loco reving up when it's about to couple, don't know what steamers are like tho!.

Thanks for the replies but how did you set up the time tabled scenario as I must be doing something different.
I've programmed the loco to move to the required siding selecting "add to back", presumably this refers to adding stock to the rear of the loco.
The truck has been positioned at the end of the marker so that the loco reverses up to it but they then fail to couple.
I've tried all sorts of variations such as using the "marshall" option ahead of the "add to back" also using the add rail vehicle option but nothing works for me.
Any further pointers to a solution welcomed.
Thanks
Fred

One of the little gotchas to watch out for in Railworks, is the front of a loco is always the end where the driver icon is positioned, no matter which way you are facing.

Well I seemed to have cracked this problem, trouble was, as usual, I was making it over complicated, thinking amongst other things that I needed to use the MARSHALL option in the scenario editor. I've written a short tutorial, if anyone should be interested have a look through and see if it makes sense.

1. Create and place the AI loco and rolling stock at the designated places on the route.

2. Next goto OBJECT TOOLS and locate the STOPPING POINT object placing it along side the rolling stock to be picked up or dropped off. Drag the STOPPING POINT arrow onto the track with the arrow just under the leading edge of the rolling stock facing the direction of loco travel. Placement seems not to be critical, to change the arrow direction press shift and left click.

3. Open up the SCENARIO editor. Underneath the AI loco entry create an ADD TO FRONT, ADD TO BACK or DROP OFF item. Click to open this item, selecting the siding that the pick up or drop off is to take place.

4. Click on ADD RAIL VEHICLE to select (in order) which items of stock are to be picked up or dropped off.

5. Repeat 3 & 4 for each pick up or drop off.

6. Please note, the loco will take the shortest route to the pick up/drop off point, so some manipulation may be required where sidings have access at both ends.

I've created a small scenario based on the Bath Green route at the Radstock sidings. It may help to have a copy where you can dissect and play around with it.
PM me if you want a copy, perhaps I should look into uploading it to UKTS, this I will do if I have many requests and I can work out to do it.

Cheers, Fred
