First scenario in the making - Padd to Oxford

Post by tubemad »

Hello all!

Probably an unfamiliar name on here at the moment as I have been more in the MSTS boards than here  but now I have RW2 working on my new PC I am planning to give scenario creation a go. It's going to be like learning to walk again as I can whizz around the MSTS editors and use all of the shortcuts, features etc but this is a bit different.

I plan to just stick mainly with default stock just with the 66 pack thrown in. The service will be some Class 166 on an Oxford fast with some delays thrown in for good measure. I'm probably throwing myself in the deep end here adding 'riding yellows' and all sorts of chaos that can happen but it's one way to learn it.

I have read through the tutorials and looks like theres alot of work to do but it looks like it's worth it in the end. Am I right in reading that you can actually add lineside workers or whatever on the trackside from the default objects assets and it will only show up in that scenario and other users would see it too?

I'm also guessing I would need a 'Timetable scenario' selection and but would I be able to use 'express train' as the train type? I fear if I use that but I intendingly want to get stuck behind trains and go riding yellows, it will just shove them out the way for me?

I shall let you know how I get on!

I'm actually just about to add to the tutorials, to cover traffic conflicts, priorities, and so on. It can get confusing because Railworks doesn't (by itself) do a lot of things that a human dispatcher intuitively would.

You can indeed add objects to scenarios - handy for shunters, relief drivers, temporary platforms, track obstructions, engineering works, etc. Just make sure to do so in the scenario editor, not the world editor. Not all objects will be available in the scenario editor, this is controlled by a flag in the object's blueprint which isn't always set appropriately. I'm not sure whether resetting that flag locally will let you add the object and still have it available to others without the edited blueprint - you'll have to experiment.
The key to knowledge is not to rely on others to teach you it.
