Thanks for that - looks a useful site
Unwrap and apply RW materials.
Anyone explain what this means? Where are/What are the RW materials?

Many Thanks

UV wrapping is the term used to get a 2D image, in this case your texture, applied to a 3D image, your Class 73.

Ooh OK.

Sounds slightly different to the normal paintbrush fill textures used in SU then - does everything need to be on one "texture sheet"? because usualy I make up different textures for different areas

Not really although if you keep the amount of seperate texture files to a minimum it will help to keep the overall size of the file that little smaller, not to mention tidier.

I suggest, once you have decided which 3D program you will be using to do the importing, is to try your hand at applying a texture to a simple cube. Once you've mastered that, then you'll start to fully understand the fun that is UV wrapping. :D

Thanks

yeah I was planning on starting simple first

Is there a updated version of the Blender IA/IGS Exporter? Because in the Installation part of the manual it says:
Bigex runs under the following Blender / Python combinations:
1. Blender 2.48 (32/64Bit) / Python 2.5 (32/64Bit)
2. Blender 2.49 (32/64Bit) / Python 2.6 (32/64Bit)
Now I have Blender 2.6 (downloaded it today) and assuming Python comes separately it will be whatever is the current release - which thus won't be suited to the plugin :/

If this thread is anything to go by then no, I'm afraid its only for 2.49.

Although 2.49 is now unsupported by the blender dev team, Hennings plug in is the one reason why I've stuck with it.

Not sure to be honest as the python version I have is 2.6.2 and I used one of the windows installer options. Sorry I can't help with that one.

The 2.6.7 sources are for Linux, so you won't be wanting those. Try http://www.python.org/download/releases/2.6.6/ for the last 2.6.x version with a Windows Installer. It works just fine for me.
