Class 423 4VEP

Post by GatwickSpotting »

Hi all,

New here, about 2 hours ago I decided to have a go at one of my all time favourites, the 4VEP. Now please excuse me for making this - I know RS.com are already working on the 421 but I wanted to have a crack at it anyhow. I'm not a great modeler so do pardon the many errors.

Anyway, here is what I have so far...

My intentions with this model is a little different to most. I'm planning to model/texture the entire thing, although when I'm done I'll be releasing the .max file to whoever wishes to do the conversion/export to Railworks. I think there are some very talented members here who'd do a much better job at getting it into the sim than myself, hopefully they'll be up for helping out. More details on that stuff later.

Thanks,
Jordi

Quick update - got a few more details added, although I need some more reference of roof areas and sides before I can really continue. This is the best I've managed to do with the little reference I have:

If anyone has any more reference for the 423 I'd be very interested in acquiring it.

Very nice work on that VEP, just wondering though, how many polygons are there in the model at the moment? :o It seems an awful lot.

That's not possible?! That seems about right for the current stage in the model with that detai- wait, that looks half-cinematic. :o

Very nice work for the low level of polys! :)

Seeing as someone budgeted 100k for a locomotive at some point, your 5k is not a disaster yet :) very nice so far.
My posts are my opinion, and should be read as such.

As soon as the body and roof details are in, I'll start the undersides/bogies.

That's shaping up very nicely indeed.

Do you mind me making a couple of suggestions? One is not to round the windows so much - perhaps keep the sides and tops of the frames straighter for the equivalent of an inch or so. The other is to raise the lower edge of the quarter-light frame by the equivalent of a couple of inches - it looks a little low at the moment.

Looking forward to seeing more of your work!

Thank you for the advice - feel free to suggest any improvements, I want exactly the same thing everyone else wants: an accurate model. :D

What I might do though is gather a little more reference before continuing, since unfortunately alot of the changes required are going to mean an entire rebuild of the side - and I don't wish to do that more than once lol.
