Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway 'A' class and goodies Pack

Post by ChrisBarnes »

Hi all,

Edward (metrobus) and myself have decided to join forces in hopefully creating a L&YR pack, the centrepiece being Edward's WIP 'A' Class, which will hopefully come with a shortish L&Y route, some suitable coaching and wagon stock and also my WIP 'Pug'. This is one of our first dives into the modelling business, which to most people, including me, seems to be the most complicated and daunting aspect for creating stuff for train sims. Luckily though, Blender is free and VERY powerful, so no money will be wasted, plus there is an excellent blender tutorial for creating the mesh for models written by Trainz artist, Paul Hobbs. The tutorial can be viewed here: http://www.44090digitalmodels.co.uk . It's people like Paul and Geoff (Acorncomputer) who provide us with tutorials that enable beginners to dig in and have a go and for whom we must be thankful for.

Ok, first screenie is of my Pug. I realise there has already been one, however it is no longer available and the engine is quite beginner friendly. Edward will no doubt present a WIP shot of the 'A' class. So, here we go:

Not got very far I know, but I'm really pleased with the progress so far. I'm really getting into Blender and, surprisingly, enjoying it!

Regards
Chris

Good luck with your pug. It's a steep learning curve, but one that's worth climbing.

Good luck guys, it's very enjoyable creating something. Doesn't matter if there's another 50 of them out there, this one will be yours.
Take your time and enjoy doing it.

Nice work Edward and Chris, dunno how the hell you've managed to work Blender...it's free and all but the number of times I've tried and had to walk away from my computer its annoyed me that much  But yes, very good work :)

Thanks Danny
I've walked away from this program hundreds of times as well and still would if it wasn't for the tutorial I linked at the top. :)

Yes, This Is a Class 27, built by Aspinall. There is one preserved, at the Ribble steam railway ( 1300 ). It was restored to steam in 2008, however in 2009 while in service at the ELR unfortunately received Firebox and boiler damage due to a faulty injector and is still awaiting repairs. It is however not the one at the KWVR (957), that is a Barton Wright class 25 built about 20 years earlier ( 1876 ).
