The Definitive UK Stock Availability Thread

Post by petermakosch »

A definitive list of UK stock availability, not including wagons or coaches.

If you have something to add/delete, please Private Message me the name and link to the build thread/site and I'll get it added (to keep this thread tidier). I generally WILL NOT add any Rail Simulator stock until the author certifies it's compatability with RailWorks.
  • Please DO NOT POST ASKING IF x IS BEING BUILT. Check the Is Anyone Going To Make This thread to ask about possible builds.
  • PLEASE DO NOT ASK FOR PROGRESS REPORTS - Do not post in the build thread asking for a progress. If there is any work to show, the authors will show it :).
  • Please don't post here saying I have missed this or that train. PM me to get it added to keep the thread clean.

The 302 mesh is available as a paywere release to be converted into such as a
class 416 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_Rail_Class_416 and
class 205 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_Rail_Class_205
With not much work needed :o

Or will UKTS being more and more RW.com
That matter is entirely in the hands of the members, it's driven by supply and demand. There is a historical and natural progression taking place right now and it would have done so irrespective of the sim/s involved. That's not a bad thing, either.

The site, for as long as I have known it, has mainly catered for (mainly) for MSTS, because that was the dominant sim in the early days. Trains/Auran TRSxxxx users tended/tend to congregate at their sim's sites, thus it's never been a big item here at UKTS.

The progression is MSTS > RS (briefly) > RW > RW2*.
Rank outsiders are ORTS and CGF (sim?) an unknown factor at this time, their effect will not be felt for some time.
Rotting corpses, under the floor boards, include, MSTS2 Mk1 & Mk2, and Trainmaster Train Sim.
(I haven't mentioned the other train sims, because of their minimal impact here, such as BVE, etc.)

Just a bit of historical perspective.

RW2, this is more likely to occur by continuing upgrades ATM, then at a certain point a major new version is likely. Note, RW2 is my label, a guesstimate, not hard fact from RSC.

RSC's CEO has said quite explicitly in the trade press that there won't be a RW2 in the foreseeable future, just ongoing upgrades via steam. Seems the plan is to make money from add-ons rather than regular core game upgrades.

I'm sure RSC has some important core code improvements in work currently. Working level crossings are some of them to mention. First step was to create better scenario editing tools (Timetable mode). I'm giving quite high raiting to they work on that. New tools are bringing to foreground all weaknesses in AI, dispatching and signalling systems which need to be fixed as fast as possible. And there are lots of them. No doubt RSC developers do something to improve scenario editing because this can help RSC to sell add-ons in future. Many trainsimmers are still very sceptical about RW (big Trainz community for example) due to weak fuctionality. The only way to get them to jump into RW boat is by getting traffic realism to higher level. At least IMO.
For me as not british guy it seems very strange that big gap has not been filled yet by payware modellers - missing rolling stock for the East Coast Mainline (York - Newcastle Modern) - Class 91 electric locos, Class 185 DMU-s (Transpennine Express). Mk 4 coaches are coming soon but nobody is making Class 91. Creation of rolling material is going somehow chaotically. For me most interesting british WIP models are 57xx pannier tank loco and Class 101 DMU by RSC, 4MT tank locomotive by Digitaltraction (very useful stuff for excellent Port Road route).
My favorite models (already done) in British Locomotive-DMU-EMU category are:
1. Class 390 EMU by Ben Laws. 10/10. Excellent modelling quality, good sounds, working tilting technology, cab superbly done with night driving features, realistic physics. Everything well done.
2. Class 380 EMU by Totalize Media. 9/10. Nice model, one of the best cabviews ever made for RW (with night lighting), realistic physics (best example of right AI physics for electric train), nice sound. -1 for missing passanger view but knowing this EMU was intended to be part of the Glasgow Airport project and this one is not released yet ... we can be prepared for some surprises.
3. Class 60 freight loco by JustTrains. 9/10. Great model, great cabview, right physics (wheelslip feature).
4.-5. Class 45 diesel loco by Sly. 8/10. -2 for soundset. After getting this right 10 out of 10. The same story with Class 37 pack. With soundsets by Armstrong Powerhouse excellent model. Those older UK diesels are very interesting material.
I have compared Class 380 and 390 acceleration in AI mode. 390 seems to accelerate way too fast and 380 too slowly.

Yeah there's a fair bit missing now, but I can't update it anymore as I presume there is a monthly time out for edits, so any thread that hasn't been edited for more than 30 days cannot be edited further.
I did send a message to a Moderator to see if this could be temporarly changed so I can edit it, then the 30 days can be put back but I got no reply. . . as yet.

Wish you could edit this:
SR / LBSC
S&D JR 7F 2-8-0 - In Game
Surely any good person would list S&D locos under LMS/MR :-?

Would it be acceptable to just put an updated list as a new reply? Better than no update at all Peter :wink:
Maybe add a notice not to post except for update news or perhaps PM you with update news to keep it tidy.
