Southern/BR Q1 Class

Morning Pete,

What can I say?

Well, let's start with a jolly-big "Thank You" for creating this work of art :).
The model is superb, and really does look the part. I can see this loco, along with the various Bulleid West Country / Battle of Britain locos, being responsible for a vastly increased interest in the former Southern Railway, and the Southern Region of BR.

To you, I take off my hat - and I'm sure I speak for everyone who you've been graceful to allow to download this that we all owe a great deal of debt for your work and generosity. The same must also go to the various people from the community whohelped you with this project. They know who they are :).

Thanks Pete!.

Very Best Wishes,
Bob.

Hello,

If we are permitted to alias the sounds to different locos, then I'd suggest (for now) that the generic 7F whistle is possibly closer to the Q1 than is the Bulleid Pacific whistle.

Hey guys, I've no problem with anyone editing their own installs at all, feel free to edit as you want to.
I also have no problem with the edited files being made available to others as long as they're not the model files. What I would suggest is that you host the edited files somewhere and place a link in this thread. I think uploading them "in public view" on UKTS would be a little harsh as not everyone has the loco.
And obviously you use them at your own risk, so make a backup etc.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

On the note of distribution, I read every request very carefully and check the posting history/file uploads of anyone I don't recognise so sending me 2 (or even 3!) requests is not necessary, or welcome.
Remember the criteria for a link is "contribution".. 0 posts and 0 uploads to the file library would tend to indicate you give nothing.
I've had requests from someone with 8 posts (7 of them just complaining) and another with 12 posts (11 of them thanking people).. I had no hesitation in giving the link to the 2nd guy. Contribution is not just the hardcore modellers.
I've also had requests from "shy" people who don't post. Not too shy to find the PM button when they want something though it would seem? Now I'm aware I've got an issue here where someone might send lots of PM's thanking creators and never post, so if that is you if you can get one of the creators to send me a PM "vouching" for you then please do.
Ok, end rant 8)

Having received the Q1 and rand the scenario that came with it may I just say what a professional job.

I am a southern man through and through (Southampton to be exact) and it is most heartwarming to know that the region can be represented with this level of quality when it comes to freeware.

You should be very proud as I am sure you are chap. Bravo.

I hope to follow in suit myself soon, I am an experienced modeler for trainz and have some 3DS Max meshes which could be put to railworks use.

Just learning the techincal bits is the key ;)

What a great Loco, very well done indeed.
The time and hard work that has gone into this is very much appreciated.

Many Thanks.

Good evening everyone,

With reference to aliasing the loco sounds and whistle, I tried to do the following:-

The engine sounds and chuffs to the 9F, and the whistle to the V2.
However, although the sim didn't pick up on any errors when running the Coal to Shepton activity, the loco han no crew, or engine / chuff / whistle sounds.

I had previously altered the King to use the Hall Pack sounds without a problem, but cannot see where I've gone wrong here :(.

Can anyone tell me which files have to be changed, and which elements of those files?

Thanks in advance.

I have a small problem, in the cab I don't get any blower, firehole door, and shovelling sounds. All other loco's are ok, should I install it again.

Other than that brilliant.

Hi

You're quite right. None of those sounds for me either. I can hear the fire though...

Sorry, I should really have picked up on that during testing.

Glad it's not just my end, do you know if there will be a fix for this.

Thanks

Hi Anthony

My understanding is that it's hopefully something in the blueprint that needs a tweak so it should be a fairly easy one to sort out.

Pete (Karma99) is on holiday at the minute as far as I know but I'm reasonably sure he'll check this out when he's back (without wishing to promise anything on his behalf, you understand!).

Cheers

Great model Pete. It's amazing to see how far your RW work has progressed - from a basic water tower to payware quality loco in only 18 months!

Good summation.

It is truly a lovely model with lots of detail and great textures like the auto-oiler mechanism and the grubby finish. Also features one of the best renditions I've yet seen of shiny metal on the tyres and the buffer shanks.

Huge thanks Pete for taking the time and sharing this brilliant model with us -- and yes, I did stall the coal train on the bank heading out of Radstock :P

All the best,

Rik.
