Anyway, looking forward to this, I brushed up alittle on it and associated steamers in the era and have a few ideas for some fun on the routes I've downloaded, so all we need is for you to put in the duct-tape on those holes

Re: Southern/BR Q1 Class
On a unrelated note to the Q1, or maybe it is related
. Could you be so kind as to give us a run down of what software packages you use karma to create the model and textures? I'm interested in started to learn from scratch and it would be interesting to see what you use and the costs entailed and well, for a beginner would you have any pointers?

Re: Southern/BR Q1 Class
Well I did say it was a picture of the real thing!
If ever there was a release that raised the bar then this is it. No screenshot can really do this locomotive justice - when you see it moving it's quite something else.
Steam comes out the back of it for no apparent reason as well - now that is clever!
And just you wait until you set up the headcodes
It's just incredible.
If it were a biscuit, it would be a Jaffa Cake. Oh... Hang on...
Cheers
Bob
[edit] crumplezone - there have been a couple of threads where the full list of programs has been listed. I'll try and dig one up.

P.S. If you download this engine, please make sure you look at the headcode documentation before you have a drive. It will absolutely set the tone for the rest of your day/evening.

It looks wonderful. The real thing may be one of the ultimate triumphs of function over beauty but this is a work of art Pete. Great shots too Bob

Re: Southern/BR Q1 Class
Ok, I'm pleased to say that the Q1 is ready for release.
Now although it's not payware, it's not exactly freeware in the normal sense either.
Let's call it "communityware". Meaning, if you're a member of this community and you contribute, then you're more than welcome to it.
Now contribution isn't just those who make things, it's also those who post thanks and encouragement, take screenshots and those who keep the whole place ticking along with advice and friendly words.
Over the past few months I've built a pretty comprehensive ignore list of those who seem to take complaining and whining to a special kind of level, in my opinion.
So the simple method of distribution for the Q1 is to send me a PM (no need to write an essay, I'll have enough to deal with as it is, just let me know you want it). I'll send you a download link and a password, and I hope you'll enjoy using it as much as I did making it.
The only proviso I ask is that you don't distribute it further, otherwise the next release will be kept completely private.
I've cleared out some space in my inbox, although a couple of dozen posts of thanks is pretty much the maximum for a release and also I can probably name the 50 main users of this part of UKTS so I'm not expecting it to fill up.
Obviously I have a life to live (no, I really do!) so don't expect an immediate response, and please be patient. If you've not heard anything in a few days, well maybe check your posting history.
So have at it
Any feedback, etc please continue to use this thread

Re: Southern/BR Q1 Class
Congrats on a job done Karma, must be a load off your shoulders to finally complete this locomotive. Going back through the posts you can really see the effort put in, also have to commend the input of the community and how they have provided you with the nessessary plans, photos and associated information needed to create this model.
It certainly shows what people are capable of doing in the restraints of computer graphics and also the Railworks engine, we can never get a 100% full accurate representation, but its the efforts of people like Karma, Sly, Justtrains and Armstrong Powerhouse to name a few which really do endevour and bring life to Railworks. As with MSTS, it was the community which kept it alive, I believe if we achieved the continued support from 3rd part developers and the community then Railworks will last for quite some time and its not likely to become dated for a good many years to come.
Naturally I've dropped a PM in and have hopefully made good on the naughty and nice list
. Anyway you deserve a good pint or two and some much needed rest before any planned other projects you decide upon.
Thanks again.

Re: Southern/BR Q1 Class
I know I told you I didn't have time to run this today, Pete, but I couldn't resist giving it a quick spin
.
Basically, I love it. The black/white smoke effects are amazing, and the dynamic smoke brings life to the outstanding model. I love how the safety valves go off
. The model itself is fantastic, certainly better than a lot of the payware I have seen. The texturing really gives a sense of dirty 1950s freight work, and the physics make you know that THIS is one hell of a powerful locomotive.
I am not that familiar with steam traction, so forgive my ignorance...the pipes on the right underside of the cab, smoke comes out from them at odd intervals, what is this used for? Is it another type of cylinder cocks? (although I do not think so, as my cylinder cocks are closed)
once again, forgive my ignorance

Adding in my pennys worth seeing how much you have progressed in this model is fantastic! Well done Pete for a really good locomotive.

Re: Southern/BR Q1 Class
Here is a few screenshots from me to really get the flavour of this wonderful locomotive:

The last photo shows the steam coming out under the cab which is a beautiful effect, also fully animated gears inside the locomotive is just beautiful. On another note, this thing is a beast of a machine, I'm currently heading to the first station on the objective list up a 1in53 at 32mph pulling the huge coal load in the scenario provided, weren't kidding when you said it was the stronger 0-6-0 built.
Well done Karma, really, well done.

Re: Southern/BR Q1 Class

This is really a work of art Pete, with all of the little bits like the steam that leaks out of the cylinders when you first start the locomotive adds to the realism! Thanks alot for this fantastic piece of rolling stock

Well done Karma, really, well done.
Ignorant question: what is that steam under the cab for? Is it another Cylinder Clock or Safety Valve?

Re: Southern/BR Q1 Class
I'm not 100% sure since I'm not a steam loco buff, but from the interaction with the game, I believe its a safety valve exshaust of sorts, it so far has trigger for me when the high pitched steam sound cuts in, which is normally when my boiler PSI is getting rather high which I assume is the safety valve blowing sound effect kicking in and such. Since the pipes run up into the boiler if you follow it with the eye I would assume its a safety mechanism. I've noticed it from videos of bigger locomotives that it spews out water when stationary, so it could also have something to do with that.
I'm sure I'll be corrected on this by others who know the locomotive and steam better, but thats what I figure it is
