How do you de-populate a platform?

Post by keithmross »

The question's in the title.
I'm using platforms in two situations where I don't want passengers (or is that 'customers'?) roaming around.
One is a makeshift bridge deck, the other is a goods/PWay platform.
How can I disable the people spawning thingys?
Any help would be great.
Thanks,
K :)

I am uncertain but I think, key word think, that deleting the orange spheres does this by removing the spawn points for the passengers. You might want to test this theory first before putting it in a route.

I have already tested that theory, seems it doesn't work, although from what i am told it used to? But i can't confirm that.....A mate tried to do something with the BIN files but to no avail, the last time i talked to him he was 'seeing what he could do'. Not sure what is possible, there are a few pre built ones without people but it is extremely difficult getting these to fit properly, then there is the Brick Blocks, although this doesn't really give a satisfactory effect. It would be nice if RSC would make a platform without people available in a later update?

You could try:

Deleting the PlatformCharacters reference in the relevant platform bin file

Failing that, in the relevant PlatformCharacters bin files that control the passenger spawning, set passenger density value to zero.

Obviously you would need to copy and rename the relevant files to produce separate NoPassenger versions.

Longbow's got the gist of it - Make a copy of the platform loft blueprint and edit out the passenger spawning stuff. I can't remember exactly which bits need to be changed, but I have done it, and seem to recall it was pretty straight forward.

Thanks guys, I'll give it a go.
Unfortunately seems overly complex for what could be dealt with by a simple properties toggle within the world editor.
Maybe some day...

you'll also need to delete the red and blue arrows, as these are the points where the characters spawn and de-spawn, the orange balls are where the characters wait for a train.

Hi sorry for bumping this thread but I've hit a bit of a problem with this principle of removing/moving the passenger spawn, wait and fade points. I moved a load of wait points about and put some of the spawn and fade points around building doors so it would look like passengers were coming out of or into the station building (and also to stop the daft muppets from standing under the footbridge stairs). Works well - except the changes don't appear to save and load into the next edit session - so all the work is lost. Is this just me or has anyone else come across this 'annoyance' ? Is this perhaps a 'program feature' I should email to support@ and await my standard watch the wiki responce ?

I don't know if its just my imagination, but for me when I put various clutter on a platform such as benches, lights, bins, canopies, etc... it seems less people "spawn" on that particular platform. Perhaps RW detects the various objects on the platform area, and will adjust and lessen it's spawning amount according to the various clutter it detects in the immediate area.

That could be something to do with the collision box. If the objects are placed near or over a spawning area then it may cause them not to spawn as the box is blocking it.

But shouldn't I be able to save changed to the waiting, spawn and exit points ?

Is it possibly a feature that simply hasn't been activated yet for some reason or other?

Sorry for bumping this thred too folks but can't "No Passenger" platforms be already generated in the sim as a lofted object (at least that is what i have already on my route with the 'red brick' platforms).
If you look down the lofted objects list, under the platform icon, you will see some platforms have dates after them like 1950's etc and some you will see don't... the ones that don't have a date or decade after them are the ones that don't spawn any people.
If you want people to spawn on one section of platform, then use the platforms that have a decade/date in the file name and then when you come to a section where you don't want passengers to appear then simply continue along the loft line with a platform that doesn't have a date on.. it works for me anyway :D

good luck with your route anyway!

kind regards

pete stuart

EDIT.... The platforms with no Passengers on them have 'NP' after the name.
