Route “Steam on the Sierra” Final Version

Hi everybody,

Three years and half ago I started in Rail Simulator a route with Iberian environment.
The name of the route is “Steam on the Sierra”, and I placed to download a reduced first version of it on March 2009.
I already talked in this forum about this first version.

Now, after a lot of work, finally I’m finishing the final version of the route, which will be available (I hope) during the present month.

The basic route characteristics are the following:

It is a fictitious route including two railway lines (a broad gauge line and a metric gauge line) and a tramway network with two urban lines and a suburban line.
All these lines are made with an Iberian atmosphere, intending to evoke environments and landscapes of the peninsular railways and tramways from Spain and Portugal.
Nevertheless, the route could also evoke some south-European environments (of Mediterranean style).

The name of the route is “Steam on the Sierra” and it is a memorial of the title of the legendary book written by the railway enthusiasts and tireless British travellers Peter Allen and Robert Wheeler.
The book was an extraordinary description of the railway landscapes of the Iberian Peninsula’s narrow gauge on the fifties.

The tracks scheme of some stations, some sections of the lines, and its orographic environment, are sometimes inspired on real stations and line’s sections, in order to make an evocation of them.
In this final version, the broad gauge line as been electrified (in the first version it was not electrified).

Please see some screenshots of the route already finished.

Cheers,

Jordi

Looks absolutely briliant.

My one question would be - how many asset downloads will we need to search for?

Looks very good, particularly the weathered track. However looking at some of the more wooded shots, I'm wondering what the asset count is on some of the tiles? Any more than 2000 - 2500 assets on several contiguous tiles and you are going to get rubber banding. Particularly where forests are concerned, it might be advantageous to wait until the RW3 update is here and replace some of the trees using bulk asset decals.

Yes Vern good point.

My query was prompted by the great looking Carbonia route which I gave up on as the list of assets to download was endless and they seemed to be scattered all over the place.

It is going to be very interesting when RW3 allows block assets to see what impact it has on the denser parts of routes.

Many thanks edsolis. :D

Well, it's already done and the route can be downloaded in http://www.trensim.com/.

I recommend that, you read the route’s instructions placed in the first ZIP file (the route’s ZIP) for the correct installation of it.

The most of the add-ons are contained in the other six ZIP files, which must be installed according to the numerical order of the ZIPs.
There are other add-ons: the vegetation and the roads from 3DTrains (freeware), the UK Buildings Model Pack (freeware) and the Isle of Wight (payware), which must be downloaded separately. You can also find the links in the route instructions.
Very important: The Isle of Wight is absolutely essential for the route’s work.

There are some points in the route that have a high graphic charge. Then, it is very important to adjust the graphic reproduction level of the simulator, to obtain a good performance of it.
The heaviest area is the city of "Vilanova de Sarria," origin of the broad gauge line, and where there is also the trams’ network.

I want to say again my comments included in the presentation instructions of the route, and sincere thanks to the add-ons’ creators (which are mentioned in the instructions), its good cooperation for the add-ons’ downloading.

I hope you enjoy the route ... it is created with that purpose.

Cheers,
