DEM data

Hi,
For my new route I have made a new template, new skies and new ground textures. Now I want to import the STRM DEM data. It was still in it's place for my Altenburg-Wildau route.
I have downloaded the data and dubble checked the lang/long numbers.
Opened the editor mode with object tool, pressed T..and of course nothing. This is the second time this does not work, and spending hours with no results...not funny. Wiki is very very very poor about this, are they affraid that we know to much?
When I manually edited the landscape, and pressed T after that, the landscape becomes flat again.
What went wrong? Does anyone recognize this?
I also can't get the Markersets into my new route...
Should I maby get RW-tools for this?
Thanks for thinking with me.. Greetz SAD

Hi Sad,
This sounds like lat and long value errors. Are you 100% certain that they are correct. Sometimes when copying from Google Earth the values end up with a blank space at the start of the value. Only other thing I can think of is swapped over Lat and Lon values or you have included the "degrees" sign by mistake.
As both markers and dem are not working I would say this is the most likely cause.

If you have ReDem it might be worth using that to apply the DEM. You would need to merge/save as bil data the hgt files being used in Microdem first but ReDem will tell you if your proposed route lies outside the chosen area of DEM. It might just be worth reviewing the DEM you are using in Microdem anyway, to check it actually covers the required area.
Also I guess first simple step, is your hgt data actually in the correct sub folder? This should be named SRTM not STRM as you have quoted in your opening post? If it's misnamed, Railworks won't find it and will by default flatten any hand crafted terrain if it doesn't find DEM data when you press "t" (one area where a little "Are you sure?" sub routine would be welcome).

Hi,
Thanks for replying,
Yes, I am sure, because it did work in my Altenburg-Wildau line. Even when U navigate to the new position to test it, it worked fine. But when going to me new route with it's own template...nothing.
I will give it a second try tonight, and will report it back to you. Thanks again, I will give the suggestions a try.

O my....
How could I be so stupid, I swapped the Lang/Long data of my route origin..in my route template.
Thanks for your help, because I expected some answers like..'due to last update..' , or something like that.
Glad the solution was that simple, I am still an amateur..

And save often

Glad you have sorted it out, and sorry I've only just spotted this.
You aren't the first to do this, and you won't be the last. Swapping latitude with longitude or failing to understand the file naming of the Dem files are the usual reasons for the T key not working.

Once you have the terrain in position - move the hgt files out of the SRTM folder so that accidentally hitting the T button doesn't cause any undue anxiety !

Hi - moving the HGT files out of the SRTM folder doesn't remove the risk of accidental presses of the "T" key. If there is no data in that folder pressing "T" will cause the terrain to reset to 0m

Very true, as I have found out many times!

Looks like I'd better superglue the T key then !
