laying tracks in opposing directions

Post by dorianmi »

hey.
i am trying to lay tracks in opposite directions.
if i choose 2 tracks and in the properties tab choose up/down, both tracks go in the same direction.
if i lay 1 in one direction then use the offset tool to lay a track in parallel in the other direction, the resultant track goes in both directions.
what am i missing?

Not sure if i understand the question correctly, but if it is track direction you mean, you can change the direction after you laid the track. Select the track using the select tool, and in the properties tab underneath the up/down dropdown click toggle. If you select the track direction view using the spacebar before you select the track you will see the direction changing as you click the toggle. Hope i've got that right.

That sounds about right. The Properties Box gives the options of [unchanged], Both, Up/Down. It alters the Track between joins so you don't have to select all the Track. For fine control you may have to Split and then Weld the Track to get the direction correct in specific areas.
Kind regards James.

If you lay track as double and selected as up/down, both lines will have the same direction. It is a slightly annoying limitation, but not exactly time-consuming to fix as described. Personally, I would use "both" as the default option and include up/down sections just where required to guide the dispatcher - you only need one short section of up/ down between junctions to ensure trains are routed the correct line. You only need a small unintended overlap of up/down and the dispatcher won't be able to find a path.
