Re: New free DEM data for UK
Thank you for pointing that out, and I'm sorry you have had to repeat it again. My usual RW activity is repainting, first day yesterday at route building
I have read reams and reams of route building info and even taken a little of it in.

Re: New free DEM data for UK
Alternative DEM the problem area with the default hgt files then swap in the OS tiles and DEM the rest, smoothing the boundaries manually. The only solution at present is the DEM as close as you can to that area and then hand create the terrain in the resulting trench.

Re: New free DEM data for UK
Thanks for the info Longbow, I think I will get away with it just, as my route goes NW from the problem area and I have a line of hills on the southern horizon.
Re: New free DEM data for UK
Ive just noted cwgaskell has uploaded some data on UKTS, can someone explain how this differs from that which was upped not long ago?

Re: New free DEM data for UK
Colin has created his own software to convert the OS data to SRTM .hgt files, while I used BILxSRTM for the final conversion - my version of the files has a number of spikes because of this conversion process. Both versions crash Railworks when T is pressed close to a latitude degree line, and both Colin and I suspect this is a Railworks problem.stuart666 wrote:Ive just noted cwgaskell has uploaded some data on UKTS, can someone explain how this differs from that which was upped not long ago?
I suggest you read all of this thread, and this one http://forums.uktrainsim.com/viewtopic. ... &sk=t&sd=a if you want to understand.

The N/S chasm I got at Okehampton with the original is no more with the latest.

Thanks for clearing that up. Looks like a new download is in order then.alanch wrote:Colin has created his own software to convert the OS data to SRTM .hgt files, while I used BILxSRTM for the final conversion - my version of the files has a number of spikes because of this conversion process. Re: New free DEM data for UK
Hi
I still get SBHH around Sheffield Park Station (on the Bluebell) but just a tile or so away and further, I get some really detailed terrain.
Fortunately SBHH only crashes the program but does not delete any terrain already raised so it may be just a matter of raising as much as possible with the new data and then using old data in the troublesome areas with some manual blending.

Re: New free DEM data for UK
The crash problem is in exactly the same places as with my previous release of the data. Sheffield Park station, unfortunately for you, is in the area that causes the crash between around 50.98 and 51.02N. Have you tried using the old data in that area? Does it work?Acorncomputer wrote:Hi

Re: New free DEM data for UK
Hi, is it possible to amagamate the information from 2 tiles to get 1 bigger one to avoid the joins or is this not possible? Definitely aimed at the techies

Re: New free DEM data for UK
As far as I know, RW/RS take 1x1 degree hgt files only.markpullinger wrote:Hi, is it possible to amagamate the information from 2 tiles to get 1 bigger one to avoid the joins or is this not possible? Definitely aimed at the techies
Inside one file you have a square of values, we know that 1201x1201 works in all cases, and 3601x3601works everywhere except when pressing "T" near a northern or southern boundary causes RW to crash.
All the best

Re: New free DEM data for UK
Hi Colin, Thanks for your answer - just one query, if the 1201x1201 works should the 3601 be 3603 or is this 1 bit overlap?

Re: New free DEM data for UK
in a 3-arcsecond file there are 1200 intervals, where 1200x3 = 3600 arcseconds = 1 degreemarkpullinger wrote:Hi Colin, Thanks for your answer - just one query, if the 1201x1201 works should the 3601 be 3603 or is this 1 bit overlap?
in a 1-arcsecond file there are 3600 intervals, and 3600 arcseconds = 1 degree.
The elevation values are at the intersections of a mesh/grid of NxN intervals, which gives (N+1)x(N+1) values.

Thanks Colin, fishing for info - not got techie head on today! Great job on the files - just got to make sure it doesn't cross a line where I want a route
