Isle of Man Progress

I've decided to open up this topic seperate to the screenshots thread found here

Reason being is that I'm getting close to handing over the first, of hopefully 5 versions, to be beta tested.
Request for permission to use assets have all been sent out and as you would expect from the UKTS community, I've recieved most of the replies back with a resounding yes. Thanks Guys

Any screenshot updates will still be posted under the screenshot section, this thread will mostly cover everything else.

Though I'd post an update.
The problem I'm finding with the Isle of Man line is the amount of Villages involved. In 44 miles of Isle of Man Network there are 20 odd stations. Time spent on the villages is really knocking any hope I had of releasing the whole network this year which is a shame.
As any route builder will tell you, scenery around stations/ yards are what the end user will see the most ,so they take longer to sort out and get right.
So where am I now, In terms of completion of whole network? about 50%. In terms of the Manx Northern Line from Ramsey to Kirk Micheal (9miles - 6 stations) 80 - 90%.
I wasn't happy with Kirk Micheal, so I've strarted from scratch with the exception of Glen Wyllan Viaduct which I'm happy with.
Once I got out of Sulby village and into the open I flew to Ballaugh and now I'm flying to Kirk Micheal. Ramsey is done to Sulby River crossing which leaves maybe 2 1/2 miles of open countryside to do plus Micheal village.
Only one thing concerns me is things are very samey, I'm worried about the over use of brambles/ bracken / gorse and tree line near.

Don't worry about things looking samey there lots of things you can do to building to change the way they look take a look at Cinder Lane Reborn I have posted a few shots of house's and have more to post to night.

I have had some Doors made up that work on some buildings so can send you those.

Hi all,

I've found the F3 Jinty's abit powerful for the Isle of Man so I'm now going to be using 0-4-0 st's for motive power.
The route is dependant on the Isle of Wight addon so it just seems logical to use Loco's that'd already be installed to run the route.
Another factor was that they are probably closer to the performance of the Peacock's used overhere, plus I've found a shed load of repaints for them so, If I can permission to use and distribute them, then the Island would have a handly little fleet.

Hi all,

I have recieved permission to use the repaints of the 040st 'invicible' so the Isle of Man will have a fleet. I might need to provide a replacement engine file for the repaints to enable forward and reverse usage on the line.
Update on the line,
Even though I've used DEM data I've had to do extensive 'surgery' to the landscape around Rhen Cullen and Kirk Micheal. The DEM data just didn't look right. That was the main reason I've restarted building the Kirk Micheal Village.
Rhen cullen cutting is in from Bishopcourt through to the bridge over the Balleira Road. Still trying to get permission to use the LPL embankments and cuttings before I can declare that certain section of the line are 'signed off' but moves are afoot to rectifiy this.
Making a start at Kirk Micheal village tonight. As of last night the camping area under the Glen Wyllin vaduct was well on it's way to being completed.
I think I've mentioned before I've decided to include some assets from the Phorun Peninsula project. Mainly because it seems most people have bought it already, although the running of the line will NOT be dependant on it.

Bit of a problem, my route won't load, neither will the back up. Just put the kettle on this could take a while.

It was crashing on the loading screen then getting the dreaded 'something bad has happened' message.
I've narrowed it down to a disfunctional foaliage asset, I think.
Thankfully I kept the full route updated with what I was doing on the Northern Line abeit not as upto date as the Northern Lines back up folder.
All in all I think I'm going to be at worse 2/3 weeks back from where I was due to keeping the full route updated monthly so it's not as big a deal as I first thought.
I'm going to try and root out the cause of the breakdown tonight in a little trial and error session to see if I can recover the lost work.

I'm well on the way to catching up any work I lost during the weekends shananagins. The area around the station in Kirk Micheal is almost finished. one or two more tweeks then fiddling with the smaller bit like adding people, benches and things.

Just about two miles of countryside to do. Kirk Micheal to Sulby is all but done. I need to go through the route bit by bit replacing non trackside pc draining assets with lower quality and delete any assets that can't be seen from the track.
I think frame rate would be an issue if I uploaded the route in the present state so just a little extra work to help out anyone who isn't on a powerful pc to be able to enjoy the route as I intended.

Keep at it! A bit like a tunnel meeting in the middle, I love that moment when you've been working on a route, alternating from either end, and you suddenly see across the tiles to the other side! Of course then comes the signalling and all the other bits and pieces to do but a sceniced route is a bit like a stubborn tree stump - once you get it loose, it's out!
