Working level crossings on their way.

Post by eyore »

I believe RSC have promised these would be developed , but a recent post by RSDerek over the pond suggests they may be immenent.
Hi,

By all means have a tinker, but RS.com will be replacing all crossings in RWs for one of the next major updates due later this summer.

regards

Derek

I never understood the fuss about working level crossings. I mean, I drive the train right, not any car. And hopefully all of the traffic has stopped before I get to the crossing, so what does it matter if it actually closes or not? The audio is a nice touch though, as often it can be heard from inside the train, but I'm really not fussed if the barriers go up or down or the traffic stops or whatever.

What *matters* with the current setup is that you don't get cars stopping at the crossing. Depending on how the route has been set up, you either get them continuing over in front of the train or if the road stops short either side the equally odd appearance of cars phasing into the ether as they approach.

On more than one occassion whilst driving I've actually had a double decker bus pass through the cab :o

A fix/upgrade for this would be most welcome :)

There are roads without cars and static car models, so that solves the problem of cars disappearing or driving over the rails. If the route has been *setup properly* then that wouldn't happen

Can't say I've ever managed to find the traffic free roads - what are they called in the drop down list? However, there's probably not a match for every road type you're likely to use.

There are plenty of instances where the barriers (or gates) would be closed in sight of the train, at a station where the LC is beyond the platform or where the line speed is low. Also TMO crossings (now that would be a nice touch!) where the driver or guard operates a plunger or pull string to start the crossing sequence.

Personally I welcome this as one of the core improvements users have asked for and shows that RS.com are trying to correct at least some of the issues inherited from Kuju.

All types of default roads have a non traffic version. Put simply, roads with traffic have a designation of Lgt, Med or Hvy, the ones without are just plain named i.e "Road 2L Tar"

Hi Dapor
This is correct, BUT in some cases you can see traffic on the roadpeaces without traffic. That is my experience.

Never in my experience, they have always worked as described.

Pah, its not an issue for me...the mindless morons dont bother stopping at the crossings on some of the routes I sign. The current setup is prototypical for me

Hi

Working level crossings and obedient traffic are not a major concern for me but if they are to be included in an update then it will be a very welcome addition.

It is a noticeable feature in MSTS that when the gates close, the traffic all come neatly to a stop behind each other. When the gates open, the traffic moves off one by one with no hassle. It would be nice to see this in RailWorks.

All things are possible in RailWorks, it just takes a bit of time to get around to them :D

That car would of came to a pretty quick stop if that train was going abit faster 8) That car driver was lucky that the train was only just starting to pull off from a station and the driver of the train has more brain cells than they do.
