The Kalm Line

Post by BenBlairL »

I've been working on a little project for the last few days. . . once I iron out the few remaining bugs I will upload it here.

It is a fictional shortline, located along the coast of the UK. I based it heavily off of the Swanange Railway, with added city elements. The route starts in the Farming Community of Kalm, where most of the produce is grown, then shipped to other cities. The large railyard is located here. The Kalm Line cuts through some fields, then enters the industrial city of Midgar. The mainline branches off with the commuter line via an underpass. The Kalm Line follows the coast for a while, then it enters the port city of Junon. The DMUs used on the line then switch cabs and head back to Kalm.

You have no idea how long this took me to make. . . :morning: I spent the entire day yesterday on JUST the signals. But, at least they work (!). Today it will be all about the scenarios and fine-tuning the route. :D And another plus: It uses minimal required stock! :D Here's what you need to run the route:

Before you even think of driving my route, there are some minor physical limitations. First of all you need at least one working human hand, the ability to take visible Electromagnetic Radiation through organs called 'eyes' in a process called 'seeing', and a central nervous system to take in this information and interpret it in a meaningful way. Hearing is optional, but the game is much better if you can actually listen to the incredible ambient sounds. Plus, you're going to have to know how to read (if you can't read, then how are you even understanding this?).

Now for the technological limitations. You are going to need a power source, preferably electrical to drive the machinery you're going to need in order to play this game. First you're going to need a computer made with Windows 7 or Windows Vista, hopefully it's Virus-free. Finally you are going to need a copy of the actual game, which can be procured in your local video game retailer or computer store. Or much more easily on Amazon.

Insert the disc into the disc tray. If you cannot perform this simple task then you lack the physical ability to play this game (if that's the case then I feel sorry for you).

:D :D :D

. . . now with that out of the way, here's what you REALLY need:

The Class 101 DMU pack,
Phorum Peninsula,
The Oovee Scenario Pack (I don't see this on their site anymore, but it's no big deal if you don't have it.),
and The Spa Valley Railway.

EDIT: Now available in the file library! Happy. . . June.. . from the Quality Route And Scenario Factory!

The route isn't very long, but it serves a purpose as a simple tutorial route.

Just out of curiosity, what kind of loco is D2391 in the background of the second last picture? To my untrained eye it looks a little like the horribly underpowered 830 Class Alco locos still belching smoke all over the northern suburbs of Adelaide in South Australia, but I suspect it is not one of those given the BR blue colour.

I don't think the download counter on the main UKTS page is a "live" counter - I've certainly downloaded it though have yet to have a drive on it :)
