Issue with tunnels

Post by FoggyMorning »

Hi

I can't figure out how to lay tunnels that are longer than 1 track length. Every time I try to join a second length of tunnel track to the first I end up with a "phantom" tunnel mouth symbol on the 2D map and a tiny sliver of light at the point where the track join is. Effectively this limits the lengths of my tunnels to 500m.

Has anyone else encountered this?

Cheers

You need to dive the camera under the terrain then get in front of and slightly above the end of the previous section, you should then be able to lock on to the end node with the track laying gizmo. It is tricky however following markers from the underground view but one of my routes has several > 2000 metre tunnels so it can be done.

One feature that would be useful however is a wire frame view so you can visualise your tunnel placement from above the ground but that's one for the wishlist.

Thanks for your reply bigvern, however the issue is not with the tracks joining correctly (they are joined, I've driven over them and the joins are perfectly normal) but rather that visually the two sections of tunnel track do not appear continuous and with a portal showing in the middle of the tunnel on the 2D map when there is in fact only 1 long tunnel. It seems to have zero operational impact but it looks a little untidy

Never come across that before, any chance of posting a screenshot to clarify what you describe?

I know what he's talking about, what about using the join tool?

Sorry I can't post a screen since I've relaid the tunnel using a non-tunnel track type and the trackless tunnel loft. Looks better with a single large bore anyway, not to mention makes placing the tunnel hole decal easier. I'll revisit this if I have the same issue with a single track tunnel I've got planned a bit further down the route. Thanks for the assistance anyway guys

Just had the same thing again. Again I've sorted it without taking a screenshot, but it seems that certain track types don't like being joined inside a tunnel and produce a "phantom" middle portal on the 2d map. This time nothing was visible in the actual World Editor screen, just the standard red triangle indicating a correct track joint; only on the map does the middle tunnel portal appear. Very odd.
Bath Wood New Tunnel and IOW Tunnel both joined OK without producing this effect, Tunnel Track 1 and the Allaboard tunnel track seemed to be the only culprits. As I said before it seems to be only a cosmetic issue but it does look a bit strange :-?
