**Before anyone comments "have you searched the forum?" the answer is yes.**
I have been creating a route for Railworks (see here) and I have decided to start editing the speed limit settings to be more realistic. However, there is no bona fide tutorial on how to do this, and there isn't much help on the RW Wiki (which more or less says you must change the speed limit before laying it...). Some people have commented on the spacebar view mode, which I have tried and checked the properties panel to edit, but to no avail.
Any screenshots/videos to see what to do would be helpful (but without RWTools if possible).

Re: Speed Limit editing
Hi
It's easier than you'd think.
Just select the track, as you would if you were laying a loft item alongside, and a the track properties window pops up on the right hand side of the screen. It's initially semi-hidden, which is why you'll probably not have noticed it.
From the properties window you can then manually type in the speed limit, and adjust other properties if necessary.
The comments about using the spacebar views are because toggling through the various options here helps to identify sections of track that are different from the rest.
Hope that helps.
