Black 5 Sound Tweak and Improvements

Post by 92212 »

Hi All

Had a brain wave the other day and put it to work!

By thinking 'outside the box', I came up with a way of making the locomotive exhaust even more realistic! Previously the chuff sound would just get louder, but that isn't all that happens when a regulator is opened up! One moment you can be chuffing along then, with a shift up to 2nd valve, you'll be well and truly 'barking'!!

Note in this video how I've tried to imitate this effect as well as other improvements to the black 5 sounds for the GCR!

Crank up the volume and have a listen! :D

If you want to know how I did it.......................I'm not telling!!! 8)

Regards

Now that is a Black 5 if I ever did hear one, that is so incredibly realistic when the exshaust beat, it blends with the increase in power and volume and doesn't feel like it abrupting changing to a new chuff beat, heck I'd swear I was behind one of the black 5s at North Yorkshire Moors Railways just listening to the video. Also is that a new high speed sound? Seems to fit the high speed exshaust beat of a steam loco utterly blasting it out at 75mph or more.

*coughs*send to GCR testers*coughs*

Very well done, if this can be done with the black 5 I'm sure the other locomotives for GCR can equally get the same treatment, sound sourcing permitting ofcourse.

Thanks guys!!
This will initially be part of the GCR black 5's but I'll be adding it to other loco's as and when sounds become available to do it effectively.

That is truly amazing Matt.

If you are willing it would be great to make a UKTS Freeware Sound Pack. I know I have mentioned this to you before so not sure if it is your thing or not.

Just imagine each default engine having new and revised sounds!!!

Also if you like I would be more than happy to talk you through applying realistic fades as per this thread. I might be wrong but does not seem to have it on the video. Hard to tell though.

Hi matt

Would this mean that it only works with Manual Fireman?

Do you have any good sounds for wheel slipping / wheel spinning.

Cheers

Great work Matt. A real improvement on an already fantastic Black 5 sound set :D Your continuing efforts are much appreciated. RW has become so much more interesting and pleasant to play with; the original sounds being so mediocre. I like those high speed sounds at the end when passing by, brilliant!

Thanks
Jos
