Cracking work Geoff. If it wasn't for the green sheds I might not have spotted the railway.

Re: The Bluebell Railway
Hi all
Thank you very much for your comments.
I have reached quite a way north of Sheffield Park so progress is good but just scenery at the moment. I am detailing fairly accurately to about 50 yards from the track but the track and fine detail will be dealt with later which will no doubt require quite a few changes to some of the work I have already done. Assets per tile are working out nicely and frame rates are also fine at the moment so no problems there yet.
Screenshots to follow when a bit more has been done but I thought you might like to share this image. It was a a bit disconcerting to be happily going about my route building work only to come face to face with someone looking back at me

Great work Geoff

Kind regards Stephen

Re: The Bluebell Railway
Hi all
Nothing odd has happened over the last few days so we seem to be back to normal
Judging by the number of decals I have completed, I am about 20% of the way through landscaping. There is still a long way to go but I am quite pleased with the results and will keep going with the same style through to the end.
I am beginning to really look forward to the model making and I can already see how to improve my lamps at Sheffield Park with a new tutorial by Derek on using the TS2012 shaders to their best but the landscaping comes first at the moment.
There is still not much that is exceptionally interesting to show but here are a couple of screenshots anyway

Nice looking fields. You did a good job getting them so square with that awkward paint tool

Thanks Guyscallum1122334455 wrote:Nice looking fields. You did a good job getting them so square with that awkward paint tool![]()
Callum.
You can actually be quite precise with the paint tool if you keep the brush size low (30m), the spread value high (1.00) and the speed low (0.05 or less). Use a larger brush size and higher speed for quick filling.
It also helps to have the procedural flora turned off or if you are using my terrain textures, use paints without flora for distant areas and only use the paints with flora near to the track.
There are some textures that blend together very well and others that just have a severe change from one terrain paint to another. I have not worked out why this should be but it may be where textures with Wang tiles are used up against textures that are just single tiles such as grass up against tarmac.
The square fields in the shots are probably The Bluebell Vineyard which does not show up on the Google Earth images. I will probably have to change some of the near track landscape when I start to obtain more information either from trudging down the line (with my photographers lineside pass) or referencing the numerous photos and videos available for the Bluebell.
There really is much more to route creation than just sitting in front of a computer and it is all great fun

Re: The Bluebell Railway
Then I will have to give this a try when I get round to painting on my route. Iv'e always found it a bit tricky trying to get the paint right.Acorncomputer wrote:Thanks Guyscallum1122334455 wrote:Nice looking fields. You did a good job getting them so square with that awkward paint tool![]()

Re: The Bluebell Railway
I forgot to mention that the round brush is best. The square one is a bit unpredictable.

Following Geoff's encounter above...love is in the air (from the air?)

On the Severn Valley between Highley and Hampton Loade.
Might like to be delicate with the brushes on this one.

I like that one Stephen.
It might be intentional ... perhaps there is a story behind it
