I also think this is a good idea. Although I tend to thank everyone whose route/scenario(s) I use, I take for granted many other assets, which I simply download from UKTS or or other places...I could name hundreds of great assets I am enjoying now thanks to the generous people who make this hobby great.

Continuing with the electrical theme, we must not forget the absolutely fantastic Standard Stock which pushes the RW boundaries with every release. The group who are producing these are very much unsung heroes. And oh my gosh there's a freeware Pannier and wagon reskins in there as well!

Yes I 've certainly had my money's worth with RW due to all the excellent freeware. Loads of items today for W&B scenarios and a nice US loco from trensim.es

I to am guilty of not thanking freeware builders and reskinners for thier hard work and would like to say thank you for donating your work to the community, i wish i had the bottle to try it but i`ve only just managed to make a free roam scenario, thanks again for allowing us all to use your products.

I'd say that the community benefits a lot from freeware routes and scenarios. Very little has been released in terms of commercial routes and the scenarios supplied with each stock purchase only include just the one extra stock item.

I would say that Port Road and Leafy Suburbs are two instant favourites to drive. I've also been massively impressed by Wales & Borders, although I'm not so much of a modern fan.

Anyway, a big thanks to all route builders out there!

Aren't they They're certainly enough detail to challenge any payware, its seeing things like that in the sim that make me want to carry on with modelling stuff.

Okey-dokey, I'll contribute. Locomotives and rolling stock and occasionally scenery are what I need to generate inspiration for certain routes, however the inspiration usually starts with locomotives. So I'll start there. Moving on from the comments on Javier's Hunslet DS...

The SVR started with the release of Kevin Martin's lovely GWR 2251 0-6-0, because the preserved No. 3205 was the first preserved locomotive to arrive in 1967. So with his Ivatt Mogul, Jinty and the default 5MT, I got started. Then, out of the blue, Matt Ivey's 57xx, suspiciously numbered 5764 and 7714 respectively, really helped to set the scene for a worthwhile route. Much later other relevant locos such as the 45xx (yay), Stanier Mogul and King by Kevin, as well as a very nice model of GWR Hall 4936 by Matt were able to be added. I was away. Here they all are at Bridgnorth shed, together with ikesmith's 4F, also a very welcome model. Possibly the largest collection of locos I've had the pleasure to use on a route of mine.





I completely redid the KWVR in RW, a) because the original was a total, er, waste of time and little attention, and b) because I had sufficient locomotives, big thank you to Kevin for his Ivatt 2MTTs and 3Fs. 41312 and 41241 together at Haworth.





Kevin's Ivatt also doesn't look out of place on the underway preserved version of the Swanage Railway, together with Matt Ivey's brill Spamcan as 34072, once again, appropriately numbered, well done that man. Don't suppose we can now hope for a version in this livery as 34070? Pretty please?




Finally, Kevin's 2251 as well as his equally sweet 4575 variant of the 45xx, which he was kind enough to include with the 45xx as a Small Prairie bundle, look at home on the GWSR.





I'll have a look and see what stock and scenery items I've got, until then, hats off to you locomotive builders, you've been a great inspiration and help, plus your locomotives are a treat to drive in RW.

An excellent post there Stephen, I'm sure Kevin and Matt will really appreciate it. There's a few things that I haven't seen mentioned yet which is quite important: primarily we should all remember that Kevin was the pioneer of freeware locos with the Corris engines back in the early days of RS. I still remember his interview with Kuju on the railsimulator website 3 years ago. 3 years later, nearly half of the freeware steamers are the work of Kevin and arguably his freeware provides some of the greatest enjoyment for users today. Astonishing work by Kevin Martin, Matt Ivey, Richard Scott and a whole host of creators, you have my fullest thanks. May I also say that I often feel for the freeware developers when the same models are reproduced as payware - no names, but if it was me I would feel my time a little wasted. Just a thought.
