WIP ported from RS to RW

Post by pjt1974 »

After taking the plunge my route is now a full Railworks project.
Some screenshots as it was evolving on RS

Just a couple of shot to get things rolling here

To anybody who hasn't seen this route or followed it's progress on the RS forum I'll give you an outline here.
I'm building the Isle of Man Steam Railways route as they were before 1967. From over 40 miles of track it was reduced to just over 15 miles to what it is today, still a fully functional steam railway.

On the map above you can see my 2D track map overlayed on a map of the Isle of Man. The line running today is from Douglas in east to Port Erin in south west.
I'm setting the time period to modern day, as if the lines were still running today carrying mainly tourists along it's lines.
I'm calling this a representation more than a replication. The Isle of Man Railways (IOMR) ran 3 foot gauge, I'm running standard and they ran 2-4-0T Beyer Peacock's, I'm running Fowler 3F 0-6-0T Jinty's.
I'm not making any 3rd party assets so it'll be what's available by default or downloaded from UKTS, with the exception of the IOW track because it looks just too damb good.
I'm about 20% complete so far so still quite a bit of work to be done.
I hope you can enjoy the updates and, all fingers crossed, there'll be a great line to download at the end of it.
Cheers
Phil

Hi Phil

It is nice to see your route building skills improving as you go along and you have certainly got the feel for it now. An interesting and unusual subject as well.

A little while since my last update but here goes.
Streaking along getting Ramsey finished. decided to include the quayside extension so a bit more scenery to sort out.
As far as Ramsey in general is concerned, with the exception of a few minor adjustment, it's complete through to Milntown road crossing.
Once I get the other side of Milntown road crossing the next 4/5 miles should be quicker due to it being open countryside to Sulby, which itself is done.
updates--------
Ramsey Station -- Double header A1 leaving Ramsey

Railcars making a rare northern run waiting to pull forward to platform

Ramsey quay -- Class 07 shunting empty wagons down the quay

wider view of the two quay sidings hidden behind the moared boats

Thanks for the comments, still work in progress, could do with a few more parked vehicles and peeps down the quayside.
Can't quite get the opposite bank looking right.

The place looks far better than it does in my screenshots. The plan is to re-open the railway in stages. At the moment our skilled team of volounteers are clearing the path of the old line from just outside Ramsey to Sulby Bridge in preparation for the laying of local ballast and the new shipment of old rails brought in from ex-Isle of Wight.
Stage one of the reopening will be a seven mile stretch from Ramsey to Ballaugh, with an option to extend a further two to Kirk Micheal as part of stage one depending on availablity of materials and building time restrictions due to weather.

Thanks for the kind words of encouragement, it makes a difference
I'd love to keep it a true scale but unfortunately I don't have the technical know how or patience to remodel track or engines and rolling stock. I've given it a try on numerous occasions but to no avail.
There is still a scope to use 3ft gauge should it become available. Swapping the Isle of Wight track in use now with a 3ft gauge track wouldn't be a problem, just a matter of using the editor in RWTools.
As for the Peacock's 2-4-0T and the Caledonian 0-6-0T and coaches, I see that they have been modelled for MSTS and always wondered if any part of the MSTS models could be used to give a potential RW engine builder a headstart on recreating them.
If you're up for it yourself or know somebody who is let me know.

cheers Phil
