Hello

It's my nearest mainline station and have driven past it for the last 12 or so years on the way to various places. I started it more of a history project due to the large amount of changes the area has undergone and will do in the future. In some ways I wanted to capture a part of my own history living nearby. When I started working on it, I only planned to take the line up to the Wood Green tunnels and had hoped to use it more like a 3D version of SimSig (ie being the "Fat Controller" in charge of train routing whilst watching the trains go by). Unfortunately RS couldn't do that so I shelved the project, though I plan to use some of the models in my current route.

Cheers

Mundo

That reminds me, I have this lying around here somewhere. I should finish it up and pack it up even though no one liked it.

I liked it infact hehe And I must ask how do you change the colours and retain all details. What process do you follow  Want to attempt a couple of my own skins

That's the hardest part of reskinning I personally have since I try to retain all the details the developer put into their textures and only compliment it.

Replace color brush hardly EVER works. Only in some extreme cases. I mainly use marque/select color range and fill, then fine tune it with blending and opacity changes to get it as close to the color I want but retain details such as rivets painted on the original. Most of the time this works well. Other times it will not and I will have to manually draw back in some of the lines showing door spacing etc then blending them in. Another technique I use to change the basic colors of things is the color selection tool then fill in and adjust blending options and opacity of that layer. Lastly once the color is fully replaced I will hunt and peck for textures to overlay on the colors to give it a dirty, dusty, wet, rusty etc etc etc look at specific places.

One of the newest "techniques" I started using is a total fill in of a template with the color I want, then grid out the template and start copying and pasting chunks of the original layer back in place. With locomotives especially being able to identify all the parts of it from the template is hard.

I'm using this technique currently with the SD40-2 highnose repaint I'm doing which is in the very early stages of repaint. This is about 5hrs of work here (take into consideration there are 4 templates involved so far repainting this)

Essentially it's a lot of trial and error in Photoshop. I've been using Photoshop for years now and still feel I'm only skimming the surface of what you can do with it. Every day I learn a different technique or use of a tool. Also what I've explained here is only a brief run down what I do. Much more "in between" work involved.

Edit: I will say I learned the most from repainting the A1. That was my first major attempt at a repaint (the Amfleet was easy as pie). Decided to pick a very hard one to do as a first (locomotive wise). Took a lot of time, plenty of manual painting, googling and even a redo, and even an awful blue and yellow version as my first result. Oof that was a bad repaint. The LMS one I'm proud of. I personally think it looks brilliant as does dlljones's repaint.

I love the new A3 reskins, its a real shame that they wont let you upload them though! That really sucks :( perhaps you could send it to them and they could make it part of the official pack or something?

as for the LMS livery, I like it but I cant help thinking theres a lot of Peed off LMS fans right now :P

(I wonder what she would look like in GWR colors?) :P

Nice shots Overmarze. Great track, where is it from? And is that a fictional route or a real place?

This is an excellent little loco. The shape is very similar to the locomotives used on the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway in India. There aren't enough little engines in RS and RW, everyone seems to want the giants like Tornado.

Incidentally, watch out for Indian Hill Railways on BBC Four over the weekend. (Sunday at 9pm I think.) The first one about the DHR was excellent.

Best wishes,
Padster
