Just an alert here.

I too am a massive fan of RWSO and their marvellous models - to the point I joined their official website to access the extra stuff that's there. There's approx 12 wagon packs and about 5 coach packs to be had, plus all the locos of course - all of very high standard and quality. BUT I also discovered last night that this official site offers what appears to be pirated RS files - namely the Class 20 and Class 390. These files are to be found in an exclusive "Moderator Recommend" section which isn't accessible to all members. I may be jumping to conclusions, but I think I'm not alone in my concern, and this situation has apparently been brought up recently on the UK Trainsim site. Maybe the Chinese have produced their own version of the Class 20 and Class 390??? :o

I guess folk will have to make their own moral judgement here, and of course maybe the Chinese have their own views of what's acceptable behaviour, but personally if it is true that they are hosting pirated files, then it's really dimmed my opinion - which is a huge shame.

Maybe someone knows different? I really hope so! :(

Yes I've seen reports of pirated assets on that site. I just have a few from
http://tsnz.galacticshare.com/china.html
which I assume are ok.

Yeah thanks, you make a good point!

I know there are other sites that host RWSO's freeware, and I'd like to make it clear that I'm not implying any other site besides RWSO's is in question (to my knowledge).

I thought I would go directly to the official site as it was a bit of a pain trying to track down other files like rolling stock - it seemed the best plan at the time!

I see there's a China track pack on that site. What is the purpose of that as I don't find a route for the RWSO stock?

Yes I think there are a couple of routes, but the one I downloaded is very much WIP - it's a bit like a lottery winner has just bought out Kato and is building the route of his dreams on a huge green carpet. :) The only variance from the flat is when the track is banked up to pass over track beneath.

If/when this route is complete is will be very impressive - trackwise anyway. It needs other assets as well though because most of the catenary and station infrastructure seems to be missing.

I cloned the Castle Rock Renfe route and renamed it Castle Rock China. It's fully electrified for the China electric locos(wish I could change the Spanish station names) but I only have that one set of green coaches. I'm rather wary of going on that RWSO site now to find more after your warning and others.
I did try some time ago but I had to fill in something in Chinese characters to register. My Chinese is a bit rusty so I couldn't manage that, lol.

Hey thanks for that link! I've downloaded the route and it seems just the thing (no offense to the Spanish author!). It's a very nice looking route - there's even a very ornate bridge that seems very Chinese-looking to me (again no offense intended  ). I only had a couple of problems with the catenary and another file, but after installing Firefox it went through very smoothly. Pity the pantos are a bit too high, but that's a small price to pay.

I feel a bit guilty about putting the downer on the RWSO site as I guess in their eyes they're not doing anything wrong, and they're not gaining anything (or losing I guess) if you don't use their files. I suppose if you stear clear of any dodgy-looking, what could be pirated files (you know what I mean) then it's a shame to cut your nose off in spite of your face :silly: . Hmmmm dilemma :( I'll leave that one up tp you :D

Yes I had problems installing the catenary in the first version of Castle Rock Renfe but I found the site it's from eventually. Don't the poles at the side load in your version? I just had the wires at one time. Are there any other mirror sites to download some different coaches btw? I only have the green ones and I can't seemto get google translate to work on the RWSO site.
I m pretty sure the catenaries were from here but which one I can't remember. There was a thread about it somewhere

Oh no. That's all Trainz stuff, But I can find them if you're missing them in the latest CRR version.

Thanks for the offer, but I think everything seems ok from what I've seen so far. At one point goes right out into the boonies (made it Mongolia in my imagination 8) ) and stuff seemed very sparse there, but I supposed that's because it's very much a WIP.

I'm not sure if stuff's available on other sites. I picked extra coach stock and some tank cars on a foreign site but they seem to have been removed.

There's quite a lot to be had overall.

BTW I was quite surprised at the route it being called Castle Rock Renfe - I expected it to be like Castle Rock only with a Spanish flavour. I haven't seen any similarity at all - apart from it being fictional! :D

Yes it's a bit sparse but I like it.Probably not ideal for China but I'm surprised they havn't made their own routes by now.
For your steam trains you might like to clone this route(Steam on the Sierra). I've played it a lot with Spanish locos, really nice
http://www.trensim.com/lib/rs/index.php ... gory&id=21
add the patch (parche) and I'm not sure if it needs extra assets but the read me should explain.
If you don't like the Castle Rock Renfe there is also the Italian electric route Alpine Rail (Ferrovia delle Alpi) which is very nice and could be used for the China electrics

Yes there are quite a few Spanish locos. I'll find the 2 main Spanish sites. I spent ages there and on Amicitreni when I was looking for assets for Carbonia.

http://www.spaintrainzrutas.com/rutas.html
Rolling stock on both sites for Spanish routes
Of course the wheels will overlap the track a bit due to different gauges but I just live with that.

Oh great - tbanks for those links. Looks like I'll have a busy w/e what with the WCML to play with as well! :D

That's what I'm enjoying the most with RW at the moment - it's really broadening my horizons. I've been so engrosed with US railroads for years it's really interesting to see what else's happening around the world. I used to really like the Russian stuff available for MSTS. I wonder what developments have been going on there?

I've looked for Russian stuff, plenty for Trainz but not RW. I had too many US routes but I uninstalled a lot except for the ones with scenarios like Pikes Eagle Ridge and Bighorn Subdivision,Bay of Quinte etc.
