Hi All
I have just got trains and drivers latest download, the royal train scenarios.
Can someone tell me how I download this to railworks? It is a zip file and I cant seem to get it on to railworks
I can undo rwp files with 7zip which I have always done previously with downloads purchased and off of uk train sim.
Any help would be appreciated
Thanks

Exactly the same way as you do an .rwp file - 7zip does most of the compressed files. Perhaps you "de-registered" some of the file associations when you installed 7zip.

You simply need to unzip it first, then install the rwp file in the usual way. If 7Zip doesn't unpack normal zip files (not sure as I don't use 7Zip) then use either Winzip or the Windows unzip programme.

7Zip unpacks anything, in my experience Ash - much the best archive programme around.

Hi, for some reason 7zip doesn't like the older RPK files - I have to open these with winzip but it is great for RWP files

Once you have 'extracted' the zip which you can do in in Win 7 without any other software. 7zip will extract it as I've just done that. You will then see an ".exe" file.
T&D provide the ".exe" file which you just click on and run, and it will usually find the railworks folder or if it can't you can browse to it.
Note: You can't install their scenarios with its own .exe file using the package manager.

hi, i dont understand why your unzipping the .RPK files, unzip the download, then open the railworks homescreen, click on the package manager tab and press install, find the .RPK file and let the program do the rest

Hi, Gav, I normally use winzip on the RPK files to find out what's in them rather than installing - usually when I'm looking for a specific engine in a multipack & want to know if I've actually got it in the pack before I install it! Also saves time when I'm checking the library if someone asks where can I find xxxx loco!

Just a note here - why are there zip files in the library anyway? Can't people adjust to a different extension - .rwp's are zip files in their own right, so to zip a zip seems pretty pointless.

There are zip files in the library since the preferred contents should be a RWP file and a "readme.txt" with installation instructions. We have been over this repeatedly with complaints about downloads having minimal or no documentation just an RWP file giving no clue as to what it inside.
It is not a case of people "adjusting" but a case of knowing what you are about to load.

Sorry EC, but I didn't know the reason for them. Full notes, after all, could have been included in the download page. After all, the .rwp's are self installing if it's been packaged correctly. Or if UKTS doesn't like this, then stuff the "Readme" as an installation file into the developer's folder, or it's own folder, much like "Manuals"!!

Hi,
I like having the readme included in the zip alongside the rwp as
1) I can view it later without having to have access to the UKTS site
2) I can read about what I'm installing before I install.
By either leaving it on the download page or inside the rwp I cannot do this.
I don't see what the problem with this method is as it has been a standard distribution practice for 20 years now!

Yes I think you've summed it up - "for the last 20 years"!!

Download the .zip file.
Right click and select 'Extract all'.
Use Package Manager to install the .rwp file if you are installing onto Railworks/TS2012, or alternatively Right Click on the .rwp file, select 7-zip, select 'Open archive' and then copy and paste the asset into the appropriate folder in Rail Simulator.
Where's the problem?
